Senior Software Engineer - Mainframe

For our client, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Mainframe to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.

This role will focus on designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise mainframe applications that support critical business operations. The engineer will partner with technical and support teams to resolve complex incidents, improve performance, and deliver reliable solutions. This position also involves documentation, implementation planning, and working across waterfall and agile delivery environments to align technology with business needs.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $106,000 – $152,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM
• Manage enterprise-level ticketing systems and related workflows
• Handle incidents, service requests, and change requests in both waterfall and agile methodologies
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and integration issues
• Conduct performance tuning and optimization for applications and database queries
• Create technical documentation for business and support teams
• Provide implementation options aligned with business requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in mainframe application development and support
• Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM
• Strong understanding of SDLC methodologies and version control systems
• Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
