What they need

Company Overview Griffon Aerospace is a trusted aerospace solutions provider based in Madison, Alabama, specializing in the design, development, and operation of advanced unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Since 1995, we have delivered over 12,000 unmanned air vehicles to the Department of Defense, allied nations, and commercial customers. We pride ourselves on being a lion-hearted partner, designing, building, and flying the most capable and intelligent aerial systems that give our servicemen an unfair advantage wherever they fly.

Position Overview The Senior Software Quality Assurance Engineer will provide independent assurance that Griffon Aerospace's software lifecycle processes and products comply with approved plans, internal procedures, contractual requirements, and applicable aerospace standards. This role lead will assist in the maturation of existing policies and procedures and assist in audit and compliance assessments, evaluate objective evidence, drive corrective action, and advise program and engineering leadership on software quality risk. The ideal candidate brings deep software assurance expertise, sound judgment, and experience supporting safety-critical aerospace or defense programs.

  • Lead independent audits and lifecycle reviews of software engineering, verification, configuration management, and release activities.
  • Assess compliance with approved plans, standards, contractual requirements, and applicable aerospace software objectives.
  • Document nonconformances, evaluate root-cause and corrective-action plans, and verify effective closure.
  • Advise program and engineering leaders on software quality risk, process tailoring, objective evidence, and readiness for reviews.
  • Review software lifecycle data, traceability, problem reports, baselines, and certification or customer-delivery evidence.
  • Support customer, regulatory, and third-party audits while serving as a software quality subject-matter expert.
  • Mentor quality and engineering personnel and drive measurable improvements to software processes, metrics, and assurance practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Quality Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of software quality assurance, software engineering, verification, compliance, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience auditing software lifecycle processes and evaluating objective evidence in a regulated environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of configuration management, requirements traceability, defect management, and corrective-action systems.
  • Experience interpreting plans, standards, contracts, and compliance requirements and translating them into audit criteria.
  • Ability to maintain independence, exercise sound judgment, and communicate difficult findings constructively.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, technical writing, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. SECRET security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in UAS, aerospace, defense, avionics, flight controls, or other safety-critical software domains.
  • Deep familiarity with DO-178C software quality assurance objectives and related guidance, plus MIL-STD-882 safety processes.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, CMMI, supplier quality, cybersecurity compliance, or government contracting requirements.
