About the role

Shopify’s Solutions Engineers are trusted technical advisors who blend deep technical curiosity, strong business acumen, and high‑trust communication to help ambitious merchants design and adopt the right commerce solutions. As a Senior Solutions Engineer (C6), you’ll lead complex, multi‑stakeholder pursuits end-to-end—running deep discovery, architecting solutions across Shopify and the broader merchant tech stack, and driving technical validation that accelerates decisions and de‑risks implementation. You’ll partner closely with Sales, Product, and our partner ecosystem, while raising the bar for the team through reusable assets, mentorship, and strong deal leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Own technical strategy from discovery through activation; drive clear next steps, remove ambiguity, and progress opportunities with strong prioritization and time management.
• Run deep, tailored technical discovery; map workflows and current-state systems; uncover business and technical requirements; identify constraints, risks, and success metrics.
• Translate merchant goals into solution architectures that fit the merchant’s people, process, and tech—balancing what Shopify can do natively with extensibility and ecosystem options.
• Design and deliver executive-ready demos, presentations, and workshops that connect Shopify capabilities to measurable outcomes.
• Partner with AEs, Solution Partners, and internal teams to define implementation approaches, integration patterns, and rollout plans that accelerate time-to-value.
• Translate merchant feedback into clear product insights and internal improvements; help teams understand what’s needed to win in a competitive market.
• Continuously deepen your understanding of Shopify’s platform, our ecosystem, and the broader commerce landscape to better serve merchants and the business.
• Travel: Up to 25% travel for customer meetings, team offsites, and key company events.

Qualifications

• Merchant-obsessed systems thinker; Sees the full merchant system—people, process, data, and tech—and fits Shopify into it thoughtfully. Designs for adoption and outcomes, not just feature delivery.
• Curious, innovative technologist; Strong in technology fundamentals; APIs, integrations, and data flows—and stays current on Shopify and the commerce ecosystem. Prototypes with Shopify tools and designs practical architectures across ERP/OMS/CDP/payments/custom services to reduce risk and unblock value across Shopify Products (Online, Retail, B2B)
• Direct, value-first communicator; Clear, candid, and high-trust—turns complexity into simple stories that land with execs and builders. Anchors recommendations in measurable outcomes (revenue, efficiency, growth, risk reduction) that drive business value and uses sound judgment and integrity.
• Inclusive, empowering collaborator; Low-ego partner who builds trust across Sales, Product, Partners, and merchants. Pulls in the right experts early, clarifies roles, and co-creates solutions that scale beyond any one person.
• Builder who creates the path; High ownership with ruthless prioritization—comfortable in ambiguity and long deal cycles. Creates leverage through reusable demos, prototypes, and technical assets; iterates quickly from feedback.
• Strategic, commercially minded partner; Deal-minded advisor who understands how merchants operate and grow. Differentiates Shopify, makes expert recommendations, and guides multi-stakeholder decisions with transparency and long-term thinking.
