The Opportunity

Our client, a leading global banking institution, is seeking an experienced Senior SQL Developer / DBA to join a high-performing international technology team based in Dublin.

This role sits within a critical data function supporting enterprise-scale platforms and multi-terabyte SQL Server environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in database optimisation, migration initiatives, performance tuning, and ensuring the integrity and availability of business-critical data across a highly regulated ecosystem.

Working closely with global stakeholders, developers, architects, and infrastructure teams, you will be responsible for supporting and enhancing large-scale SQL Server platforms that underpin core banking operations.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain and optimise SQL Server database solutions.
• Analyse and improve performance across high-volume transactional databases.
• Troubleshoot complex database issues in production environments.
• Drive query optimisation and SQL code performance improvements.
• Support database migration and transformation projects.
• Ensure data integrity, security and compliance standards are maintained.
• Collaborate with distributed global teams across application, infrastructure and data functions.
• Contribute to database architecture and best practice initiatives.
• Support release management, deployments and production change activities.

Required Experience

• 8+ years' experience in SQL Server development and/or database administration.
• Strong experience with SQL Server 2016 or later .
• Advanced T-SQL development skills including:
  • Stored Procedures
  • Views
  • Functions
  • Triggers
  • Complex query development
• Proven expertise in:
  • Query optimisation
  • Performance tuning
  • Indexing strategies
  • Execution plan analysis
  • Database troubleshooting
• Experience supporting large-scale multi-terabyte SQL Server environments .
• Strong background in database migration and upgrade projects.
• Experience operating within high-availability, mission-critical production environments.
• Ability to work confidently with stakeholders across globally distributed teams.

Preferred Experience

• Financial Services, Banking, Capital Markets or other regulated industries.
• SQL Server DBA responsibilities including:
  • Backup & Recovery
  • High Availability
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Replication
  • Always On Availability Groups
• Experience integrating SQL Server with Oracle environments.
• Oracle Database and/or PL/SQL exposure.
• ETL, SSIS or data integration experience.
• Automation and scripting exposure (PowerShell preferred).

You are a highly experienced SQL professional who thrives in complex enterprise environments. You've supported large-scale databases measured in terabytes, understand the challenges of high-throughput transactional systems, and have a track record of improving performance and database reliability.

You combine strong development expertise with practical DBA experience and are comfortable working within regulated environments where data quality, performance and resilience are critical.
