We have an urgent W2 opening for a Senior SQL Server DBA/DBE Engineer (Hybrid/Travel) with our client for a contracting role.

Title- Senior SQL Server DBA/DBE Engineer (Hybrid/Travel)

Location – Miami, FL / Hybrid or Travel

Contract – 12+ months CTH

• A third-party company has been supporting the role but has been unsuccessful so far.

• Current candidate pool has been too DBA-focused without enough hands-on database engineering/optimization experience.

• There have also been concerns with candidates using AI during interviews.

• Strong communication and professional presence are critical, as this person will work directly with client/customer on behalf of Green Dot.

• Looking for someone with strong leadership presence who can confidently communicate technical concepts and recommendations.

• Must have hands-on database engineering and performance optimization experience not just database administration.

• Ideal background: someone who started in SQL/database optimization or database engineering and progressed into broader DBA/development responsibilities.

• Should be comfortable analyzing memory, CPU utilization, system statistics, database performance and bottlenecks and making hands-on optimization recommendations.

• Need someone who can both diagnose performance issues and implement the technical solution, rather than simply monitor/administer the database.

Key profile: Strong SQL/database optimization + hands-on engineering + DBA knowledge + customer-facing communication/leadership.

• Role will be primarily remote, but the resource will need to support the N. CA, Jacksonville and Miami offices onsite as needed.

• Candidates should ideally be Florida-based/local to one of these markets or be very comfortable with travel between Jacksonville and Miami when onsite support is required.

• • Suppliers should confirm location and willingness/ability to travel before submitting.

Required Qualifications

10+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA or database engineering experience

5+ years in a senior or principal-level performance-focused role

Expert knowledge of SQL Server 20162022 internals

Proven tuning of large, high-concurrency OLTP systems (thousands of TPS, multi-TB databases)

Experience in financial services, payments, or banking

Demonstrated resolution of hot spot, latch, lock, and tempdb contention in production

Advanced T-SQL development and execution plan analysis

Hands-on design and operation of partitioning at scale

Deep production experience with Always On AGs and SQL Server Replication

Strong proficiency with Query Store, Extended Events, DMVs, and wait-stats methodology

Working knowledge of Windows Server, WSFC, SAN/NVMe storage, and virtualization

PowerShell scripting and automation (dbatools preferred)

Experience working under PCI-DSS, SOX, or similar audit controls

Strong written communication, including RCA reports and executive summaries

Preferred Qualifications

Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, or SQL Server on Azure/AWS VMs

Cloud performance and cost optimization experience

In-Memory OLTP and columnstore for hybrid workloads

SQL Server on Linux and containers

Database DevOps: SSDT, Flyway, or Liquibase, plus CI/CD and automated testing

Additional platforms such as PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, or Snowflake

Certifications such as DP-300 (Azure Database Administrator Associate) or MCSE/MCM Data Platform
