About the role

This 12-month fixed-term parental leave cover opportunity is a chance to step into a senior planning role where you'll work on projects with real social and economic impact across the community. You'll manage a diverse portfolio of planning and subdivision applications, provide expert advice and help shape high-quality, timely planning outcomes. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor other planners, build strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to improving how Council delivers planning services.

  • Make an impact - assess complex planning and subdivision applications and contribute to projects that shape the future of the community.
  • Be a trusted advisor - work closely with developers, residents, government agencies, internal teams and the broader community.
  • Lead and support others - mentor junior planners, share your expertise and help lift quality, consistency and confidence across the team.
  • Improve how planning is delivered - identify smarter, more streamlined ways of working while staying across legislation, planning schemes and VCAT decisions.

About you

You're an experienced planning professional who enjoys solving complex problems, working with people and making a meaningful contribution to the community. You'll bring strong knowledge of Victorian planning legislation, sound judgement and the confidence to work across a diverse range of applications, stakeholders and competing priorities. You're also a collaborative team player who communicates clearly, stays organised and takes pride in delivering practical, high-quality and customer-focused outcomes.

  • Planning expertise— a town planning qualification and local government planning experience, with strong knowledge of Victorian planning legislation, regulations and requirements.
  • Sound judgement— you can assess complex situations, solve problems, make well-reasoned decisions and confidently apply your experience to new challenges
  • People-focused communicator— you can build relationships and negotiate effectively with developers, consultants, government agencies, colleagues and the community.
  • Organised and adaptable— you manage competing priorities, work independently, embrace change and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.
