Job Summary
The Senior Structural Design Engineer is responsible for performing structural analysis, design, and engineering calculations for industrial facilities and infrastructure projects. The role involves designing reinforced concrete and structural steel structures, preparing design calculation reports and technical drawings, reviewing engineering deliverables, and ensuring compliance with applicable design codes, standards, and project specifications. The position also requires close coordination with clients, multidisciplinary engineering teams, draughtspersons, fabricators, and site personnel to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design for industrial buildings and facilities, including foundations, reinforced concrete (RC) equipment foundations, reinforced concrete buildings, structural steel buildings, steel pipe racks, and steel equipment platforms.
- Carry out structural design calculations, modelling, analysis, and verification to ensure structural integrity, stability, safety, and compliance with project requirements.
- Perform dynamic foundation analysis and design for rotating or vibrating equipment where required. Experience in dynamic foundation design will be an added advantage.
- Design and review structural steel connections, including the preparation and checking of connection details using relevant engineering software and tools.
- Prepare structural design calculation reports, technical documents, design specifications, and other engineering deliverables.
- Provide design mark-ups and detailed instructions to draughtspersons for the preparation of structural drawings, and review detailed drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design requirements.
- Utilise structural engineering software, including STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, and Prota, for structural modelling, analysis, and design.
- Apply relevant structural design codes, including Eurocodes, seismic design requirements, applicable standards, and statutory regulations. Familiarity with American design codes will be an added advantage.
- Review shop drawings, assess technical submissions, and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) raised by site teams, contractors, and fabricators.
- Conduct site visits and inspections, where required, to verify the implementation of structural designs and resolve technical issues arising during construction.
- Coordinate with clients, project managers, civil and structural engineers, and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure design consistency and effective project execution.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet project schedules, quality requirements, safety standards, and applicable engineering practices.
- Identify design discrepancies, assess technical risks, and recommend practical engineering solutions to address project challenges.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and other team members, including reviewing design calculations and engineering deliverables.
- Incorporate Building Information Modelling (BIM) requirements and coordinate with relevant teams using Revit or other applicable BIM tools, where required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Approximately 10 to 12 years of relevant experience in structural analysis and design, preferably in engineering consultancy and industrial projects.
- Strong experience in the design of reinforced concrete and structural steel structures, equipment foundations, pipe racks, steel platforms, and industrial facilities.
- Proficiency in structural engineering software such as STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAP2000, and Prota.
- Sound knowledge of Eurocodes, seismic design principles, structural design standards, and applicable regulations.
- Experience in structural steel connection design and familiarity with relevant design tools.
- Experience in dynamic foundation design, American structural design codes, BIM, and Revit will be an added advantage.
- Ability to prepare and review structural design calculations, engineering reports, technical specifications, and detailed drawings.
- Good technical problem-solving, analytical, organisational, and coordination skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver engineering assignments within project timelines.
