Senior Structural Engineer - Hamilton

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Hamilton.

This is a key senior position within a small, collaborative local team, offering the opportunity to remain technically hands-on, work directly with clients and have genuine input into the continued development of the structural capability in the region.

The consultancy has a strong national presence, meaning you will also work closely with experienced structural engineers across New Zealand, providing access to additional technical expertise, resources and a broad range of projects.

The Opportunity

You will be involved in the design and delivery of structural engineering projects across the commercial, industrial and residential sectors, taking projects from initial concept through design, documentation and construction.
The position will suit an experienced engineer who enjoys technical design but also wants responsibility for clients, projects and supporting less experienced engineers.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading structural design and delivery across a variety of building projects
• Working across commercial, industrial and residential developments
• Managing projects from concept and preliminary design through to construction
• Developing practical and commercially appropriate engineering solutions
• Working directly with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants
• Undertaking site inspections, investigations and technical assessments
• Reviewing engineering designs and documentation
• Providing guidance and mentoring to developing engineers
• Collaborating with structural engineers across the wider national business
• Contributing to the ongoing growth and success of the Hamilton team

About You

We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer who has developed a strong technical background within the New Zealand consulting environment.
Ideally, you will have:

• Approximately 8+ years' structural engineering experience
• Strong New Zealand consulting experience
• A BE Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent qualification
• Experience across commercial, industrial and/or residential buildings
• Good knowledge of seismic design and New Zealand Building Code requirements
• CPEng accreditation preferred, although not essential
• Strong client-facing and relationship-building skills
• Experience managing structural projects through the full project lifecycle
• A practical, solutions-focused approach to engineering
• The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
