Enterprise Solutions, Inc. (ESI) is seeking a Senior Structured Cabling & Telecommunications Infrastructure Coordinator to support Fairfax County’s Department of Information Technology. This position provides technical coordination and field support for structured cabling and telecommunications infrastructure across facility renovations, new construction, relocations, and modernization projects.
The successful candidate will bring practical knowledge of copper and fiber-optic cabling, experience interpreting construction drawings, and the ability to coordinate contractors and technical teams across multiple projects. Responsibilities span design review, site assessments, installation inspections, issue resolution, documentation, and project closeout.
This is an ongoing staff augmentation assignment supporting multiple County projects and operational priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and mark up architectural, electrical, telecommunications, security, and audiovisual drawings and specifications to identify infrastructure requirements, conflicts, and compliance concerns.
- Participate in design reviews, construction meetings, Requests for Information (RFIs), and submittal reviews.
- Conduct site surveys and pre-construction, during-construction, and final inspections to assess existing conditions, installation progress, workmanship, and compliance with approved requirements.
- Coordinate structured cabling and telecommunications activities with County project managers, technical teams, architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, cabling vendors, and facilities personnel.
- Review infrastructure supporting voice, data, wireless, audiovisual, security, access control, surveillance, and overhead paging systems.
- Validate telecommunications room requirements, including main and intermediate distribution frames (MDFs/IDFs), racks, cabinets, cable management, pathways, grounding, and bonding.
- Monitor installations for compliance with County standards, approved construction documents, applicable codes, and industry practices.
- Document and track installation deficiencies, design conflicts, RFIs, dependencies, risks, and punch-list items through resolution.
- Coordinate vendor schedules, site access, installation sequencing, testing, remediation, and closeout activities.
- Support facility moves, renovations, temporary facilities, swing-space deployments, and transitions involving public safety and other County operations.
- Review as-built drawings, cable test results, labeling, and closeout documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain project records, photographs, drawing markups, action items, and status reports.
- Provide infrastructure recommendations and field observations to County technical teams. Obtain County approval before implementing design changes, substitutions, standards deviations, or technology selections.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience supporting structured cabling, telecommunications, or cable infrastructure projects in commercial, government, institutional, or other complex enterprise environments.
- Strong working knowledge of copper and fiber-optic cabling systems, telecommunications spaces, pathways, grounding and bonding, labeling, testing, and installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, telecommunications, security, and audiovisual construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience with construction coordination, design reviews, RFIs, submittals, site inspections, punch lists, and project closeout.
- Working knowledge of applicable building, electrical, fire/life-safety, and telecommunications codes, including requirements related to pathways, penetrations, firestopping, and telecommunications spaces.
- Familiarity with BICSI and Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) standards and best practices.
- Ability to identify, document, and escalate installation deficiencies, workmanship issues, design conflicts, and potential code or standards concerns.
- Experience coordinating architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, facilities staff, and technical teams in active construction and operational environments.
- Ability to organize multiple concurrent assignments, adapt to changing priorities, and work with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between County facilities and project locations.
- Ability to satisfy County-required background checks and facility and system access requirements.

- Experience supporting government, public safety, first responder, or mission-critical facilities.
- Experience using PDF drawing review and markup tools and electronic construction documentation systems.

- Primarily on-site work at County facilities and project locations throughout Fairfax County and other County-supported locations as needed.
- Ability to conduct site surveys and construction walk-throughs, including walking, standing, bending, and accessing telecommunications spaces.
- Ability to occasionally lift and handle equipment or materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
