Senior Superintendent

GarrettX is seeking an experienced Senior Earthwork Superintendent to lead and oversee heavy civil construction operations, specializing in mass excavation, grading, and site development.

This senior-level position requires an individual with extensive field experience, advanced heavy equipment knowledge, strong leadership capabilities, and a comprehensive understanding of construction site operations from initial setup through project completion.

The Senior Earthwork Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing either one large-scale project or multiple smaller projects, ensuring safety, productivity, profitability, and schedule performance. This individual will also support the General Superintendent, collaborate with other construction divisions, and help develop future field leaders.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily earthwork operations, including mass excavation, site preparation, grading, compaction, and material movement.
• Plan and coordinate project schedules, manpower, equipment, materials, and jobsite logistics.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of heavy equipment operation, including dozers, excavators, motor graders, scrapers, loaders, haul trucks, and compactors.
• Train and evaluate equipment operators on safe, efficient equipment operation and proper construction techniques.
• Utilize and train others on Trimble GPS, site layout, and 2D/3D machine control systems.
• Provide operational support and cross-training for underground utility installations, including storm, water, and sewer, as well as road base preparation and grading.
• Monitor daily production, job costs, equipment utilization, material expenses, and overall project profitability.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, production records, project schedules, and documentation supporting progress billing.
• Coordinate equipment mobilization, material ordering, trucking, and import/export operations.
• Conduct safety toolbox talks, enforce safety standards, and assist with incident investigations.
• Supervise field personnel, conduct performance evaluations, address employee concerns, and maintain appropriate personnel documentation.
• Mentor foremen, operators, and developing superintendents to strengthen the company's future leadership.
• Work closely with Project Managers, divisional superintendents, and the General Superintendent to ensure successful project execution.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of heavy civil construction experience preferred, with extensive mass excavation and grading experience.
• 5+ years of superintendent or comparable field leadership experience preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of heavy equipment operation and the ability to train others.
• Strong proficiency with Trimble GPS, construction layout, and machine control technology.
• Working knowledge of underground utility installation and road base construction.
• Experience with construction scheduling, production tracking, cost management, and project reporting.
• Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, grades, elevations, and digital terrain models.
• Proven ability to manage multiple crews, coordinate resources, and maintain project profitability.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel between assigned jobsites.
