Senior System Analyst (Sybase/ PowerBuilder)

A leading higher education institution in Hong Kong is seeking a Senior System Analyst to support and enhance mission-critical education systems. This role will be responsible for the analysis, development, maintenance, and modernization of enterprise applications, while working closely with business users, technical teams, and external vendors to deliver stable and effective technology solutions.

Reporting to the Application Services team, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting core institutional applications, translating business requirements into technical solutions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work within a large-scale technology environment supporting digital transformation and application modernization programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead system analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and support activities for enterprise applications.
• Maintain and enhance existing applications developed using PowerBuilder and Sybase technologies.
• Engage with business users to gather requirements and translate them into functional specifications and technical solutions.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver system enhancements that improve operational efficiency and user experience.
• Perform application development, troubleshooting, bug fixing, and root cause analysis to ensure system stability.
• Develop, maintain, and optimize database objects, stored procedures, SQL scripts, and related integrations.
• Work closely with infrastructure, security, and project teams to support application delivery and ongoing operations.
• Coordinate with external vendors, consultants, and system integrators to ensure successful project execution and support services.
• Support application modernization initiatives and participate in migration projects where required.
• Prepare technical documentation, system specifications, testing plans, and support procedures.
• Conduct impact assessments and recommend technology solutions to meet evolving business needs.
• Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for optimization, automation, and continuous improvement.
• Support user acceptance testing (UAT), deployment activities, production rollout, and post-implementation support.
• Perform ad hoc assignments and responsibilities as required by management.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5-8 years of experience in application development, system analysis, and enterprise application support.
• Strong hands-on experience with PowerBuilder application development and maintenance.
• Solid experience with Sybase ASE, Microsoft SQL Server, or other relational database management systems.
• Strong SQL development skills, including stored procedures, database design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Proven experience gathering business requirements and translating them into technical solutions.
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications and critical business systems.
• Knowledge of application modernization, cloud migration, or system enhancement projects would be advantageous.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, external vendors, and consulting partners.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Experience within higher education, public sector, or large enterprise organizations would be highly desirable.
