What they need
Senior Technical Architect | Fulltime
Job Description:
Role Purpose
We are seeking a highly experienced Solution Architect to lead the independent evaluation, design and technology selection for an internally owned enterprise B2B digital commerce platform.
The platform is expected to support complex business capabilities and integrate with existing enterprise technologies, including SAP S/4HANA, integration middleware, content management systems, identity providers, procurement systems, payment services, logistics providers and analytics platforms.
The role should also consider the wider marketplace operating model, including B2B customer account structures, supplier and seller workflows, catalog governance, order orchestration, fulfillment, returns, settlement, reconciliation, and post-launch service ownership.
The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating alternative technical solutions, determining the optimal architecture, recommending suitable technologies and establishing the architectural foundation for secure, scalable, maintainable and cost-effective implementation.
This is a technology-neutral architecture leadership role. The candidate must be capable of challenging existing vendor recommendations, assessing build-versus-buy options and defining a solution aligned with our enterprise architecture standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Enterprise Solution Assessment & Technology Evaluation
- Work with the Business Analyst and review the business requirements, existing vendor proposals, technical specifications and solution assumptions.
- Conduct an independent assessment of appropriate B2B commerce platforms and implementation approaches, including SaaS, headless, composable, custom-built and hybrid architectures.
- Evaluate industry leading e-Commerce solutions and viable alternatives against the approved business requirements.
- Conduct structured capability fit-gap assessments, proof-of-concept exercises and technical feasibility studies.
- Assess commercial implications, licensing, total cost of ownership, extensibility, operational complexity and long-term maintainability.
- Recommend the target technology architecture with documented evaluation criteria, trade-offs and decision rationale.
2. End-to-End Solution Architecture
Define the end-to-end architecture covering user experience, commerce services, business logic, data, integration, infrastructure, security and operational monitoring.
Determine logical and physical solution components and their responsibilities.
Produce architectural diagrams, component interaction models and data flow diagrams.
Establish architectural standards, design principles, reusable components and integration patterns.
Define solution boundaries between commerce capabilities, SAP and other enterprise applications.
Define architectural support for B2B customer capabilities, including company and branch account structures, user roles, purchasing approvals, customer-specific catalogs, contract pricing, credit-limit and payment-term controls, quotations, repeat orders and purchase-order references.
Design architecture patterns for marketplace supplier and seller capabilities, including onboarding, verification, portal access, catalog submission and approval, stock and pricing feeds, order acceptance, settlement reporting, reconciliation and dispute workflows.
Produce High-Level Design documents and oversee Low-Level Design standards.
Translate approved operating models into solution workflows for warehouse-stock, supplier-fulfilled, flow-through and other approved fulfillment channels, including availability checks, inventory reservations, order allocation, split orders, partial deliveries, substitutions, backorders, returns and proof of delivery.
3. SAP & Enterprise Application Integration
Lead the assessment and architectural design of integration requirements involving:
SAP S/4HANA: Customer and material master data, contract pricing, discounts, inventory, ATP, order creation, order status, invoices, payment history and returns.
Integration middleware: SAP Cloud Integration / CPI and MuleSoft, including responsibility boundaries and orchestration patterns.
Enterprise procurement: BirchStreet PunchOut and related procurement interfaces.
Content management: Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or appropriate alternatives.
Identity management: Enterprise SSO, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, MFA and user authorization.
Logistics and payments: Third-party logistics providers, shipment tracking, proof of delivery and payment gateways.
Financial controls and reconciliation: Billing, tax invoices, credit notes, refunds, payment posting, seller settlement, dispute handling and end-to-end transaction traceability.
Supplier and marketplace services: Supplier data exchange, catalog synchronization, seller operations and settlement interfaces.
Analytics: Enterprise BI, operational dashboards, transaction analytics and data services.
Define APIs, data contracts, system-of-record ownership, integration frequency, retry mechanisms, error handling, reconciliation, monitoring and exception management.
Ensure the architecture includes monitoring, alerts, exception queues, controlled retries, duplicate prevention, recovery controls and reconciliation to avoid lost or repeated orders, invoices, payments and financial transactions.
4. Security, Infrastructure & Non-Functional Architecture
Evaluate suitable cloud hosting and infrastructure options in collaboration with RSG's infrastructure teams.
Define environment requirements, deployment architecture, networking, scalability and disaster recovery.
Establish measurable standards for performance, concurrency, availability, latency, backup and recovery.
Ensure architecture alignment with enterprise cybersecurity requirements and relevant Saudi data protection, taxation and electronic invoicing obligations.
Design secure identity, authentication, authorization, encryption, logging and API security patterns.
Establish DevSecOps, CI/CD, release management, source control and observability principles.
Define launch readiness, rollback criteria, release controls, service handover, support runbooks, platform monitoring, incident escalation, root-cause improvement and continuity-testing requirements.
Evaluate operational supportability, service boundaries and platform resilience.
5. Architecture Governance & Technical Delivery
Lead architecture reviews with internal engineering teams, SAP specialists, cybersecurity and enterprise architecture stakeholders.
Prepare architectural decision records and present solution options to governance forums.
Define technical implementation dependencies, proof-of-concept requirements and architectural delivery milestones.
Support effort estimation, technical resource planning and implementation sequencing.
Provide architectural oversight during development, integration testing, deployment and transition to operations.
Establish business readiness and adoption requirements with the business owner, including operating procedures, onboarding approach, training needs, user guides, service ownership records and feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement.
Ensure appropriate technical documentation and knowledge transfer to internal development and support teams.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field.
10–15 years of experience in software architecture, enterprise integration or large-scale digital platform delivery.
Significant experience designing B2B e-commerce or enterprise transactional platforms.
Strong practical knowledge of SAP S/4HANA integrations, especially sales orders, pricing, inventory, master data and order fulfillment.
Proven experience with API-led integration, middleware and distributed system architectures.
Experience evaluating commercial software platforms against custom development approaches.
Knowledge of REST, OData, event-driven integration, APIs, authentication standards and enterprise data architecture.
Hands-on understanding of cloud platforms, application security, DevOps, observability and production resilience.
Strong architecture documentation and stakeholder presentation skills.
Experience defining marketplace capabilities across catalog governance, customer-specific pricing, order orchestration, fulfillment, returns, supplier onboarding, seller operations and settlement processes.
Ability to challenge vendor proposals, assess total cost of ownership, define scalable in-house ownership models and support knowledge transfer from delivery partners to internal teams.
Preferred Experience
- SAP Cloud Integration, MuleSoft and complex SAP integration landscapes.
- VTEX, SAP Commerce Cloud, Adobe Commerce, commercetools or comparable enterprise commerce technologies.
- PunchOut integrations using cXML or OCI, including BirchStreet or comparable procurement applications.
- AWS and/or Google Cloud architecture.
- TOGAF, cloud architecture certification or equivalent professional architecture qualifications.
- Experience with vendor technology assessment, platform modernization and in-house engineering transformation.
