The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Senior Technical Document Writer to join our team on a client consulting engagement, taking full ownership of the technical document writing function for an underground hard rock mine that has recently brought new conveyor and crusher equipment online.

This is a client-facing consulting role, not an internal writing position you'll be engaged directly on-site to own this workstream from end to end, working within the client's operation rather than from behind a desk.

This role suits someone who has genuine, hands-on experience writing technical documentation and SOPs within a hard rock or underground mining environment, and who understands the practical realities of operating and maintaining conveyor and crusher equipment, rather than someone coming purely from a generalist technical writing background.

 

What You'll Be Doing

• Taking full ownership of the technical document writing function on a consulting engagement at an underground hard rock mine, working autonomously as the client's dedicated technical author
• Developing, writing and formatting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for newly commissioned conveyor and crusher equipment, from commissioning through to steady-state operation
• Reviewing OEM manuals, engineering drawings and commissioning documentation to translate technical information into clear, practical operating and maintenance procedures
• Partnering with site operations, maintenance and engineering teams to capture equipment-specific operating parameters, safe work practices and isolation/lockout requirements
• Ensuring all SOPs meet the client's site standards, regulatory requirements and safety management system obligations for underground hard rock mining
• Conducting site walkdowns and equipment inspections to validate procedures against the actual equipment configuration and operating conditions
• Coordinating document review, sign-off and version control processes with site subject matter experts and management
• Establishing templates, style guides and document control frameworks to support the client's ongoing technical documentation needs
• Supporting training of site personnel and supervisors on new SOPs to enable safe adoption of the new equipment
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of Xenco's technical documentation methodologies, tools and frameworks

What We're Looking For

• Proven senior-level experience in technical document writing within a hard rock or underground mining environment, genuine site-based operational experience is essential
• Strong working knowledge of conveyor and crusher systems, including operating principles, safe work practices and maintenance requirements
• Demonstrated ability to take full ownership of a technical documentation function and work autonomously with minimal oversight
• Comfortable operating as an external consultant, building trust and credibility quickly with site operations, maintenance and engineering stakeholders
• Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to translate complex engineering and equipment information into clear, structured, easy-to-follow SOPs
• Experience working with OEM documentation, engineering drawings and commissioning records
• Willingness and ability to work on an underground hard rock mine site as required
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage subject matter experts and senior site leaders
