Senior Technical Engineer – Waste & Recycling / Material Handling

SWORD Engineering is a growing, family-run engineering business specialising in waste, recycling and material handling equipment.

We design, manufacture, assemble and install bespoke machinery including conveyors, trommels, hoppers and complete MRF systems.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Technical Engineer to support our workshop and site teams.

The role

This is a hands-on mechanical engineering role. You’ll be the experienced technical person our welders, fabricators and fitters can turn to when they need advice or help solving a problem.

You’ll interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, assist with mechanical fitting and assembly, carry out quality checks and control, and provide technical support through manufacture, installation and commissioning.

You’ll need strong practical experience with:

• Engineering and fabrication drawings
• Conveyors, trommels and associated equipment
• Motors and gearboxes
• Bearings, shafts and housings
• Hydraulics
• Mechanical fitting and assembly
• Fault finding and problem solving

Previous experience in waste, recycling or material handling equipment is essential.

You’ll also need a good understanding of working in accordance with CDM Regulations, PUWER, RAMS, SSOW and CE/UKCA requirements, with the ability to work safely in both workshop and site environments.

The person

We’re looking for someone technically strong, practical and genuinely hands-on.

Someone who can read a drawing, understand how the machinery should go together, answer the team’s questions, spot when something isn’t right and help get it built properly.

This isn’t a desk-only role — we want someone who gets involved and gets stuck in.
