What they need
Senior Technical Sales Consultant
Location: Los Angeles, CA | Onsite | Full-Time
About Our Client
Our client is a fourth-generation construction company based in Los Angeles, specializing in masonry, concrete, hardscape, and structural hillside work across residential and commercial projects. They take pride in their craftsmanship, a legacy of excellence, and a commitment to exceeding client expectations on every project. As their clients and projects become increasingly sophisticated, they are building a senior sales team to match.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Technical Sales Consultant to join our client's growing team. This is a plug-and-play senior role for a seasoned concrete, hillside, hardscape, and masonry professional who can scope and sell complex, high-end residential design-build projects without needing coaching on the trade.
You will meet with clients who know their projects well—including architects, engineers, and informed homeowners—and you will be expected to define every job accurately enough that it can be built as sold. Technical credibility matters as much as sales ability. Every bid and proposal must reflect our client's high standards of quality and accuracy, and every sold job must hand off to production cleanly.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Site Visits: Conduct on-site client visits for complex residential and commercial projects, assessing site conditions, scope, and technical requirements such as slope, drainage, access, and structural needs.
- Technical Scoping: Define every job in detail before it is sold, including wall locations, heights, and angles, drainage paths, material specifications, and sequencing, ensuring nothing important is left to be figured out after the sale.
- Bid Preparation: Gather all necessary information to prepare precise and competitive bids, including materials identification, engineered details, and pricing.
- Engineering & Permitting Coordination: Work with geotechnical, structural, and civil engineers as well as permit expediters to confirm scope and requirements, carrying their direction into final proposals.
- Relationship Building: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partner vendors, and industry professionals such as landscape designers, architects, engineers, and irrigation specialists.
- Bid Submission: Prepare and submit detailed bids according to established pricing formulas.
- Sales Strategy: Develop and execute strategies to meet and exceed monthly sales goals.
- Client Support: Provide continuous client support and consultation throughout the pre-sale process, handling scope changes and revisits efficiently so every site visit stays focused and productive.
- Contracts & Invoicing: Prepare contracts and invoices for approved projects.
- Production Handoff: Classify each sold job as simple, medium, hard, or complicated, and deliver a complete handoff of site notes, photos, video walkthroughs, and technical details to the Project Management team. Participate in weekly sales and production meetings to transition approved bids into planning and execution.
Qualifications
Industry Background
- 15+ years of in-field concrete, hillside, hardscape, and masonry experience, with a strong emphasis on the residential design-build side. (Commercial-only experience, even with strong plan-reading skills, is not sufficient.)
- Prior experience in a senior sales, estimating, or project role, or ownership of a company that performed this full range of work.
- Strong technical command of masonry, concrete, and hillside systems, including block, brick, stone, stucco, concrete, tile, machine work, precast, repainting, waterproofing, retaining walls, pipe and board, slope stability, blueprint reading, and proficiency in civil work including drainage, grading, and excavation.
- Ability to read and interpret civil and structural plans and engineering reports.
Functional Experience
- Proven track record of success selling complex, high-end projects, including jobs of $500,000 or more.
- Experience managing client relationships from initial consultation through contract close, including sophisticated clients who ask detailed technical questions.
- Comfortable preparing detailed, accurate bids and proposals under established pricing formulas.
- Ability to identify technical risk and scope gaps before a job is sold.
Soft Skills & Attributes
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the credibility to earn trust quickly with architects, engineers, and informed clients.
- Proficient in computer applications and digital tools, including CRM systems.
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing a full pipeline of active bids and a heavy appointment schedule with minimal supervision.
- Plug and Play: You are expected to bring technical depth from day one, and our client will teach you their systems.
