HCLTech are currently hiring for a Senior Technical Specialist - AI, Java & ML in Austria..

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Technical Specialist – AI, Java & Machine Learning to design, build and deliver scalable, production-ready AI and machine learning solutions.

This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong expertise in Java/software engineering, combined with practical experience developing and integrating Machine Learning, Generative AI and AI-driven applications within enterprise environments.

You will work closely with architects, engineering teams, data specialists and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into secure, scalable and maintainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop enterprise-grade applications and services using Java, Spring Boot and modern software engineering practices.
• Architect and implement AI and Machine Learning solutions, from experimentation and prototyping through to production deployment.
• Integrate Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) into enterprise applications and workflows.
• Develop APIs and microservices that enable AI/ML capabilities to be consumed by other applications and platforms.
• Build solutions involving techniques such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, vector search and prompt engineering, where appropriate.
• Work with structured and unstructured data to develop, train, evaluate and optimise ML models.
• Implement robust MLOps practices covering model deployment, monitoring, versioning and lifecycle management.
• Design scalable solutions leveraging cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
• Ensure solutions meet enterprise requirements around security, performance, scalability, reliability and responsible AI.
• Conduct technical reviews, troubleshoot complex engineering issues and drive improvements in code quality and architecture.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies, frameworks and models and determine their suitability for practical enterprise use cases.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to developers and engineers while remaining actively involved in solution delivery.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to convert business challenges into technically viable AI solutions.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Significant professional experience in software engineering and application development, with strong hands-on Java expertise.
• Advanced knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs and microservices architecture.
• Strong practical experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
• Experience developing AI/ML solutions using Python and common ML/data libraries alongside Java-based enterprise applications.
• Practical experience with Generative AI and Large Language Models.
• Understanding of RAG architectures, embeddings, vector databases/vector search and LLM integration patterns.
• Experience taking AI or ML solutions beyond proof-of-concept into production environments.
• Good understanding of MLOps, CI/CD, automated testing, model monitoring and model lifecycle management.
• Experience with at least one major cloud platform: Microsoft Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Experience with Docker and containerised applications; Kubernetes experience is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, scalability and secure coding practices.
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Skills

Experience in some of the following would be advantageous:

• Azure AI Foundry / Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex AI
• LangChain, Semantic Kernel or similar AI orchestration frameworks
• Vector search technologies and databases
• PyTorch, TensorFlow or scikit-learn
• Apache Kafka or other event-driven architectures
• Kubernetes and cloud-native engineering
• Data engineering and large-scale data processing
• AI agents and agentic architectures
• Model evaluation, observability and AI governance
• Knowledge of Responsible AI, data privacy and security considerations
• Experience working within complex enterprise or consulting environments

We are looking for someone who combines deep engineering expertise with practical AI experience.

You'll be comfortable moving between Java application architecture, APIs, cloud services, machine learning and Generative AI. Importantly, you understand the difference between creating an impressive AI prototype and engineering a solution that can operate securely and reliably at enterprise scale.

You should be someone who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, challenging assumptions and keeping up with a rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Relevant certifications in Azure, AWS, GCP, Java or AI/ML technologies would be advantageous.
