What they need

Role Overview

The Senior Technology & Solutions Engineer is a senior technical individual contributor responsible for providing technical leadership across IX Telecom’s Technology & Solutions function, covering technical product, architecture and technology planning, technical solutioning, core engineering, technical design authority, L3 engineering and engineering governance.

The role develops technically sound, scalable, supportable and commercially viable solutions while ensuring alignment with network architecture, capacity, resilience, technical standards and operational requirements.

The role acts as a senior L3 technical authority supporting Project Engineering under Service Delivery and Technical Support Engineering under Network Operation, resolving complex technical issues and governing design quality without assuming line-management responsibility for those teams.

The role also supports technical product development, technology evolution, network optimization, capacity planning and continuous improvement across the Network & Technology organization.

Primary Accountability: DESIGN IT RIGHT; ensure the right technology and the right solution are designed, governed and continuously improved from the beginning.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Solutioning

Develop end-to-end technical solutions for customer, network and infrastructure requirements.

Perform technical feasibility assessments and translate business/customer requirements into practical technical designs.

Prepare and review solution architecture, High-Level Design (HLD), Low-Level Design (LLD), Bill of Materials (BOM) and technical costing inputs where required.

Support Sales, Pre-Sales, Sourcing and Account teams on complex or non-standard technical opportunities.

Ensure proposed solutions are scalable, deliverable, supportable and aligned with IX Telecom technical standards.

2. Architecture & Technology Planning

Develop, maintain and improve network architecture and technology standards.

Assess network capacity, resilience, scalability, lifecycle and End-of-Life/End-of-Support risks.

Maintain technology and capacity roadmaps aligned with business growth and service demand.

Recommend network expansion, technology refresh and infrastructure improvement based on technical and commercial requirements.

Ensure architecture decisions consider reliability, operational supportability, cost efficiency and future scalability.

3. Core Engineering

Provide senior engineering expertise for core IP/network, routing, transmission and related carrier-grade infrastructure.

Review and govern significant core-network changes, upgrades, optimization and complex configurations.

Support capacity expansion, resiliency improvement and network performance optimization.

Provide deep technical troubleshooting for complex core and infrastructure issues.

Coordinate with carriers, vendors and OEMs for specialist engineering escalation where required.

4. Technical Product

Define technical product specifications, service capabilities, limitations, architecture and technical standards.

Develop standard technical models for existing and new connectivity products and services.

Define technical delivery, capacity, equipment, monitoring and support requirements for products.

Work with Commercial/Product stakeholders to ensure products are technically feasible, standardized, scalable and supportable.

Review product lifecycle and recommend technical enhancement, standardization or retirement where appropriate.

5. Technical Design Authority

Act as senior technical reviewer for complex, high-risk and non-standard designs.

Establish and maintain HLD/LLD, configuration, architecture and engineering design standards.

Ensure technical solutions comply with approved architecture, capacity, resilience and operational requirements.

Identify and escalate unacceptable technical, capacity, resiliency or supportability risks.

Recommend approval, conditional approval or redesign of technical solutions within delegated authority.

6. L3 Engineering & Escalation

Provide L3 technical expertise to Project Engineering and Technical Support Engineering.

Lead complex technical investigation, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis beyond L1/L2 capability.

Support major incidents, implementation blockers and complex service issues where specialist engineering expertise is required.

Ensure L3 resolutions, technical findings and lessons learned are documented and transferred to L1/L2 teams.

Escalate to vendor, OEM or carrier technical specialists where internal capability or authority is insufficient.

7. Engineering Governance & Competency

Establish and maintain engineering standards, technical templates, design practices and documentation requirements.

Conduct technical reviews and promote consistent engineering quality across Design, Delivery and Operate activities.

Provide technical mentoring and knowledge transfer to Project Engineers, Technical Support Engineers and other technical teams.

Identify technical competency gaps and recommend training, certification or capability-development actions.

Promote disciplined engineering decision-making, documentation and knowledge reuse.

8. Innovation, Optimization & Cost Efficiency

Identify opportunities for network optimization, automation, simplification and engineering efficiency.

Evaluate new technologies and recommend adoption based on technical, operational and commercial value.

Drive initiatives to improve utilization, resiliency, scalability and cost efficiency.

Support technical cost-per-capacity and infrastructure optimization analysis where required.

Convert operational and delivery lessons learned into permanent design and technology improvements.

9. Cross-Pillar Technical Collaboration

DESIGN: Lead technically by defining the solution, architecture and technical standards while obtaining deliverability input from Service Delivery and operability input from Network Operation.

DELIVER: Provide L3 support and technical governance while Project Engineering leads implementation, testing and RFS.

OPERATE: Provide L3 support for complex issues and drive permanent technical improvement while Network Operation retains ownership of live-service assurance.

Maintain clear technical boundaries so that operational and project line accountability remains with the respective pillar.

Promote one technical team with clear accountability, seamless handover and continuous improvement.

10. Technical Reporting & Management Visibility

Provide systematic reporting on architecture risks, capacity, L3 escalations, technical debt, product readiness and improvement initiatives.

Maintain clear action, risk and decision registers for significant technical matters.

Provide concise recommendations to the COO and management on technology, capacity, resiliency and investment priorities.

Track technical improvement initiatives through measurable outcomes and closure.

Key Interfaces & Decision Authority

Primary Interfaces: COO, Service Delivery, Network Operation, Sales/Pre-Sales, Sourcing, Account Management, customers, carriers, vendors, OEMs and technology partners.

Decision Authority:

Technical review and recommendation for complex and non-standard solutions.

Technical standards, design requirements and engineering practices within delegated authority.

L3 technical investigation and escalation direction.

Recommendation to reject or redesign solutions that create unacceptable technical, capacity, resilience or operational risk.

Recommendation of core-network changes, technology upgrades, capacity expansion and optimization priorities.

Vendor/OEM/carrier technical escalation where specialist support is required.

The role is not the Head of Technology & Solutions and does not carry line-management authority over Service Delivery or Network Operation resources. Organizational, people and commercial approval authority remains with the COO and respective functional Heads.

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong carrier-grade telecommunications network architecture and engineering knowledge.

Strong IP/MPLS, BGP, routing, Internet/IP Transit, DIA and Layer 2/Layer 3 service knowledge.

Good understanding of transmission/DWDM, international connectivity, resiliency and capacity planning.

Strong L3 troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis capability across multi-vendor environments.

Ability to translate business/customer requirements into scalable and commercially practical technical solutions.

Strong technical product, lifecycle and standardization mindset.

Strong analytical, documentation and technical governance discipline.

Ability to mentor engineers and transfer knowledge without relying on formal line authority.

Strong communication with management, customers, commercial teams, carriers, vendors and engineers.

Ideal Experience

8–12+ years in telecommunications network engineering, architecture, technical solutioning, core engineering or equivalent senior technical roles.

Strong hands-on experience in carrier-grade IP/network environments and complex technical troubleshooting.

Experience designing and supporting enterprise, carrier and wholesale connectivity services.

Experience with network architecture, capacity planning, resiliency and technology lifecycle management.

Experience acting as senior technical reviewer, L3 engineer, technical lead or design authority.

Experience working across Sales/Pre-Sales, Project Engineering, Operations, carriers, vendors and OEMs.
