About the RoleOur client is a specialist quality engineering business whose mission is to orchestrate exceptional people, automation and AI to deliver better outcomes for their customers.

As they build their own AI-enabled testing capability, they are looking for a senior leader who wants to help shape the next generation of quality engineering. You will start with a major client in the logistics sector, then grow into a senior capability working across other high-profile clients. What You'll Be Doing

• Lead quality engineering engagements, building credibility quickly with technical and business stakeholders.
• Understand client challenges, see the bigger picture, and recommend what to do, why, and how automation and AI can improve the outcome.
• Design, build and evolve scalable automation frameworks, not just write automated tests.
• Lead the transition towards Playwright and modern Microsoft and cloud-aligned tooling, while working confidently within an existing Java, Selenium and Cucumber environment.
• Drive API automation and embed testing into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
• Apply AI across the QE lifecycle, from AI-assisted test generation and intelligent maintenance to test analysis and agentic approaches.
• Challenge thinking constructively, translate technology into business outcomes, and influence quality strategy.
• Contribute to the consultancy's growing AI-enabled testing offering and wider capability.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years' commercial testing and automation experience, ideally at Senior or Lead level.
• Strong coding capability and a solid understanding of automation architecture and framework design.
• Strong Playwright capability, or the technical depth to lead a transition towards it.
• JavaScript/TypeScript and/or strong OOP experience (Java or C#).
• Selenium and Cucumber experience, plus BDD using Gherkin, Cucumber or SpecFlow.
• API automation and testing capability.
• Strong CI/CD understanding, ideally GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.
• Experience across regression, functional, integration, system and end-to-end testing.
• Excellent communication and consulting skills, with a track record of advising and influencing stakeholders.
• Genuine curiosity about AI and how it can transform quality engineering.

Nice to have:

• Practical AI experience in testing or QE (AI-assisted test generation, LLMs, coding assistants, agentic approaches, or AI in automation frameworks).
• Microsoft technologies and Azure cloud exposure.
• Performance testing (JMeter), mobile automation (Appium) and SQL.
• ERP/CRM automation across SAP, Salesforce or Dynamics 365.
