Senior Test Engineer (Fixed-Term 18-Months)

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Test Engineer to join a technology team supporting the simplification and modernisation of core banking systems.

This is a hands-on quality engineering role with a strong focus on test automation, API and integration testing, SQL/data validation, and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with Developers, Business Analysts, Test Engineers and other delivery stakeholders within an agile environment, helping teams understand product quality, identify risks, and make informed delivery and go-live decisions.

The role would suit someone who is technically strong, comfortable working across complex integrated systems, and able to contribute both hands-on testing capability and broader quality engineering expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain automated test suites across API, integration, system and web testing.
• Build and improve API automation using modern testing tools and frameworks.
• Prepare test approaches, scenarios and test data in collaboration with Developers and Business Analysts.
• Use SQL, APIs and application data to validate business rules, calculated values and integration outcomes.
• Support regression, exploratory, system and end-to-end testing across complex environments.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and continuously improve test coverage, reliability and execution speed.
• Investigate and triage defects, test failures, data issues and environment problems.
• Identify testing risks, dependencies and impacts across systems and delivery teams.
• Communicate test coverage, quality risks and outcomes clearly to stakeholders.
• Contribute to testing standards, automation best practice and continuous improvement across the wider testing practice.
• Support and mentor other testers where required.

Technical Skills and Experience You will bring strong hands-on experience across software testing and test automation, including:

• 5+ years’ experience delivering testing outcomes across web, API, system and integration environments.
• Strong experience designing, developing and maintaining automated test frameworks and test suites.
• Hands-on experience with at least one modern automation tool or framework, ideally Playwright, Postman, Bruno or NUnit with C#.
• Strong API testing and automation capability.
• Experience working with REST APIs, with exposure to SOAP and/or gRPC beneficial.
• Programming experience using C#, Java or Python, with the ability to write clean and maintainable automation code.
• Strong SQL and database querying skills, including data validation and verification of calculated values.
• Experience using Git, branching and pull-request workflows.
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong debugging, defect triage and test-failure investigation capability.
• Experience working within Agile, DevOps or Continuous Delivery environments.

Banking and Financial Services Experience Previous experience within banking, financial services, payments, lending or core banking environments is highly desirable.

Experience testing products, platforms or processes relating to areas such as the following would be valuable:

• Core banking
• Payments
• Lending
• Deposits or term deposits
• Interest calculations and accruals
• Maturity instructions
• Break fees
• Financial transactions

Experience with data-driven testing, migration testing or reconciliation testing would also be highly regarded.

Senior-Level Capability As a Senior Test Engineer, you will be expected to contribute beyond test execution alone.

You will be comfortable:

• Contributing to test strategies and helping determine appropriate testing scope.
• Identifying risks, dependencies and quality concerns early.
• Working autonomously while collaborating across multiple teams.
• Participating in code reviews and promoting good automation practices.
• Communicating quality outcomes clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentoring others and contributing to wider testing standards and practices.
• Continuously improving testing tools, processes and ways of working.

Familiarity with BDD approaches such as Gherkin or Cucumber would be beneficial.

What We’re Looking For This opportunity will suit a technically hands-on Senior Test Engineer who enjoys working across APIs, databases, integrated systems and automated delivery pipelines.

You will be particularly well suited if you combine strong automation, API testing, SQL, coding and CI/CD experience with the ability to investigate complex issues and contribute to broader quality engineering practices.

Experience within banking or financial services, particularly across core banking, payments or lending, would be a strong advantage.
