Senior Tooling Technician

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior Tooling Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for tooling maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement to ensure optimal tooling performance and minimise production downtime.

This role requires strong technical expertise in precision grinding, milling, metal stamping, and blanking processes, along with the ability to support production operations, collaborate with engineering teams, and provide guidance to junior technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily tooling maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance to ensure reliable tooling performance.
• Conduct tooling inspection, testing, and buy-off activities for new tooling before production implementation.
• Coordinate with Production Planning to ensure tooling readiness and support on-time delivery (OTD) requirements.
• Diagnose and resolve tooling-related issues to minimise production downtime and improve operational efficiency.
• Provide technical training, coaching, and guidance to new and junior technicians.
• Support the Engineering team in tooling improvement, process optimisation, and continuous improvement projects.
• Collaborate closely with Production and other departments to ensure smooth manufacturing operations.
• Maintain proper tooling conditions, workplace safety, and 5S housekeeping standards.
• Work with tooling suppliers to improve tooling reliability, durability, and overall performance.
• Support the achievement of departmental key performance indicators (KPIs), productivity targets, and company objectives.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

• Minimum SPM/MCE qualification with a credit in Mathematics.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in precision grinding and milling processes.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in metal stamping and blanking processes, with strong tooling troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Proven experience in tooling maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting within a manufacturing environment.

Technical Skills

• Proficient in using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, vernier calipers, gauge blocks, and height masters.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) will be an added advantage.
• Proficiency in 2D or 3D technical drawing software will be an added advantage.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities or experience leading technical teams or projects.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
• Good command of written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and continuous improvement.
