What they need

🚀 Embedded Engineer – U-Boot / Cortex-A | Remote Europe | Outside IR35

An industry leading SemiConductor client is looking for a senior experienced Embedded Engineer for a long-term contract working fully from home (you can work from anywhere in Europe) on the porting of U-Boot to a next-generation SoC.

This is a genuinely low-level role — ideal for someone who enjoys working close to the hardware and has experience with U-Boot, bootloaders, Cortex-A, or high-end RZ/MPUs.

The opportunity

🌍 Fully remote – work from anywhere in Europe

📄 Long-term contract 🇬🇧 Outside IR35

💰 Competitive / high day rate

🎯 One-stage interview process

🔧 Work directly on a next-generation SoC and boot platform

What you'll be doing

The core focus is porting and bringing up U-Boot on a new SoC, working across the boot chain and supporting the platform from early bring-up through verification.

You'll be working with areas such as:

  • Embedded C and low-level development
  • U-Boot and/or ARM TF-A bootloader development
  • Open-source upstream processes
  • Cortex-A / high-end MPU architectures
  • High end MPU such as Renesas RZ
  • Linux BSPs, Device Tree and embedded Linux basics
  • Experience with Yocto, Linux kernel debugging
  • Hardware bring-up and debug would also be highly relevant

What we're looking for

Essential:

  • Strong Embedded C / low-level development experience
  • Commercial U-Boot development experience
  • Experience with U-Boot
  • Strong understanding of embedded Linux / ARM-based platforms

Highly desirable:

  • high-end MPU experience
  • ARM Cortex-A
  • ARM TF-A
  • Yocto / Linux build systems
  • Device Tree
  • Linux kernel debugging
  • Hardware debugging — schematics, oscilloscopes, signal verification
  • Git / GitLab and JIRA
  • Python
  • MISRA / static analysis
  • Strong software testing background

You don't need to tick every box. If your background is strongly aligned with U-Boot, bootloaders and Cortex-A/MPU bring-up, I'd like to hear from you.

If this sounds like your kind of project — or you know someone who'd be a good fit — send me a message or your CV or apply on here and I'll talk you through the details in view of setting up a call between you and the client. The client are targeting a start from January 4th for a long term home working contract engagement.

The interview process is one stage and you can be shipped the hardware and send the paperwork in the months before Christmas.
