Senior UI Developer

Our client is an established Australian technology company, delivering cutting-edge technology around the world. They have an exciting opportunity to take on a newly created role developing real-time 2D visualisation overlays and data-driven rendering over real-time video feeds.

The role
As the Senior UI Developer, you will join a product development team on a Greenfields project, and be responsible for leading front-end architecture and hands-on delivery of high-quality, accessible user experiences across web-based products and internal operational platforms. owns the design-to-production delivery of user interfaces, including real-time 2D visualisation overlays and data-driven rendering, and contributes to the definition and implementation of the front-end stack, component strategy and API contracts between front end and back end. The position supports greenfield development and legacy replacement initiatives, ensuring robust design-to-code consistency, performance, maintainability, and governance expectations.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop 2D graphics, overlays and interactive visualisation components using PixiJS and WebSockets, including real-time updates where required
• Lead front-end SME ownership, setting implementation standards and delivering production-ready UI
• Review, recommend and finalise the front-end technology stack including frameworks, TypeScript discipline, component strategy, build/tooling and delivery patterns
• Design and implement the front-end architecture to support scalable, maintainable feature delivery and a consistent UI across multiple application surfaces
• Define and develop API contracts between front end and back end in collaboration with back-end engineering, including interface definitions, authentication flows, and integration patterns
• Design and develop UI/UX look and feel, translating requirements into practical, buildable designs
• Produce wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity designs as required, with complete interaction detail (states, errors and edge cases) sufficient for build and test
• Optimise performance for data-heavy rendering, ensuring the UI remains responsive and does not negatively impact core operational application performance
• Implement role-based authentication (RBAC) patterns, aligned to OAuth/SSO requirements
• Build reusable component patterns and ensure design-to-code parity across variants, states and behaviours
• Establish and govern a greenfield UI component library/design system (components, tokens, guidelines and documentation) to drive consistency and reduce rework
• Embed accessibility and inclusive design practices into both design and implementation, meeting required standards where applicable
• Improve quality through disciplined documentation, peer review, defect resolution and reduction of UI/UX and front-end technical debt
• Communicate technical and design rationale clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customer-facing forums where required

About you
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

• Solid experience at a Senior or Lead level delivering production UI for complex web applications, spanning interaction design, component-based front-end build, accessibility, and design systems
• Strong technical skills with React/TypeScript, including examples of shipped work and/or architectural decision-making
• Demonstrated experience delivering real-time and/or interactive visualisation UI using PixiJS (or similar canvas/WebGL libraries, Three.js, etc.) and WebSockets
• Experience implementing OAuth/SSO and RBAC-aware UI, including multi-surface applications with role-based feature visibility
• Ability to work off a PC (a Mac can't be used on the client's network)
• Tertiary qualifications in Interaction Design, UX, HCI, Computer Science/Software Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent commercial experience
