Insurance Investment Solutions (IIS) is a proudly independent underwriting agency with a reputation for delivering innovative insurance solutions, exceptional service and long-standing broker relationships.
As we continue to grow our presence here in Aotearoa New Zealand, we are looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our Otautahi Christchurch team.
This is an exciting opportunity to mahi with an established Australian business while helping strengthen and grow our underwriting capability in Aotearoa New Zealand.
You will mahi alongside an experienced underwriting team, develop strong broker partnerships and play an important role in delivering profitable, sustainable growth across our New Zealand portfolio.
 
About the Role
 
As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting new and existing business, building trusted broker relationships and providing technically sound, commercially focused underwriting solutions.
Working closely - mahi tahi - with our Australian colleagues, you'll contribute to the continued development of our Aotearoa New Zealand operation by sharing ideas, supporting best practice and helping deliver exceptional outcomes for our brokers and insureds.
 
What You'll Do

• Underwrite new business, renewals and endorsements within delegated authority.
• Assess complex risks and deliver commercially sound underwriting decisions.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
• Work collaboratively with our Australian underwriting team to support the continued growth of our New Zealand portfolio.
• Contribute to underwriting guidelines, product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Identify opportunities for profitable growth while maintaining underwriting discipline.
• Collaborate with Claims, Compliance and Operations to deliver outstanding customer outcomes.
• Represent IIS at broker meetings, networking events and industry functions.

About You
 
You will be an experienced underwriter who enjoys building relationships, making quality underwriting decisions and working as part of a collaborative, high-performing team.
 You will bring:

• Significant commercial and/or property underwriting experience.
• A sound understanding of the New Zealand insurance market.
• Strong technical underwriting skills and commercial judgement.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• A customer-first approach with a passion for delivering exceptional service.
• The ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
• A proactive mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Desirable

• Experience within an MGA or Lloyd's Coverholder environment.
• ANZIIF qualifications or equivalent.
• Established broker and business relationships across Aotearoa New Zealand.
