Senior Virtual Construction Engineer | BIM / VDC

Our client, DAVIS Construction , is seeking an experienced Senior Virtual Construction Engineer to join its growing Virtual Construction team in Rockville, MD .

With several large, complex projects preparing to launch, the team is looking for a hands-on VDC professional who can independently lead BIM coordination efforts, partner closely with project teams and trade partners, and translate model-based coordination into practical, constructable solutions in the field.

This opportunity could be a strong next step for an experienced VDC Engineer, BIM Engineer, BIM Coordinator, VDC Specialist, Senior BIM Coordinator, or BIM/VDC Lead ready to take greater ownership of complex commercial construction projects.

Location

• Rockville, MD / Washington DC-Baltimore Area
• Initial onboarding period is primarily in person
• After approximately 30-60 days, there may be flexibility for 1 remote day per week, potentially 2 , depending on project and team needs
• Local project/jobsite presence throughout the DMV region

What You'll Do

• Independently lead BIM/VDC trade coordination on complex commercial construction projects
• Develop and manage federated models
• Perform advanced Navisworks clash detection , track issues, and drive clashes through resolution
• Lead BIM coordination meetings with project teams, architects, engineers, and trade partners
• Coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, architectural, and other building systems
• Integrate shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, and design changes into coordination workflows
• Develop trade composite drawings, overlay studies, site logistics plans, and other advanced VDC deliverables
• Support site logistics planning, constructability analysis, and construction sequencing
• Process and incorporate reality capture / point-cloud data
• Establish QA/QC procedures to ensure model accuracy and coordination completeness
• Align VDC milestones and deliverables with project schedules and field execution
• Troubleshoot difficult coordination issues and develop practical, constructable solutions
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior VDC staff
• Help advance technology, automation, and innovative workflows across DAVIS

What You Bring

• 3+ years of hands-on VDC/BIM experience , ideally within a commercial general contractor or large mechanical/electrical trade partner
• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying, or a related discipline preferred, or equivalent experience
• Advanced proficiency with Autodesk Navisworks , including hands-on clash detection and coordination
• Strong experience with Revit and AutoCAD
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage federated models and resolve coordination issues
• Experience leading coordination efforts on active construction projects
• Strong knowledge of building systems, construction documents, assemblies, phasing, and trade coordination
• Experience reviewing and incorporating shop drawings and submittals
• Experience with reality capture and point-cloud workflows
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex project demands independently
• Strong communication skills with project teams, field leadership, designers, and trade partners

Salary Range

$88,000 - $105,000 base salary

The team has indicated a willingness to remain flexible when considering candidates with particularly strong VDC experience, project complexity, and technical leadership capabilities.
