Senior Visual Editor

We are seeking an experienced Senior Visual Editor to join a fast-paced, digital-first newsroom. The Visuals team plays a critical role in delivering compelling, accurate, and timely visual journalism across digital and print platforms. This position is ideal for an experienced visual journalist with exceptional editorial judgment, a strong news instinct, and a passion for elevating storytelling through photography and visual content.

Responsibilities

• Lead visual coverage for breaking news, live events, and high-profile stories.
• Monitor news, sports, politics, and entertainment to identify visual opportunities.
• Research, source, and produce high-quality photography for digital and print publishing.
• Create compelling photo composites and visual assets for homepage and editorial features.
• Pitch and produce engaging photo essays, galleries, and visual storytelling packages.
• Negotiate licensing agreements and rates with wire services, agencies, and freelance photographers.
• Assign, brief, and manage freelance photographers to support editorial coverage.
• Ensure all visual content meets editorial, legal, and ethical standards.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with newsroom stakeholders to support timely, high-impact storytelling.

Qualifications

• 5-10 years of experience in photo editing or visual journalism within a digital and/or print news organization.
• Extensive newsroom experience with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong knowledge of wire services, photo agencies, licensing, and image rights.
• Proven expertise in photo research, verification, and visual fact-checking.
• Excellent editorial judgment with a deep understanding of news, politics, sports, entertainment, and current events.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Experience assigning, briefing, and directing photographers.
• Digital-first mindset with experience optimizing visual content across multiple platforms.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.
