Thompson Family Plumbing & Drain is growing our Arizona septic division, and we’re looking for a hardworking, mechanically minded Septic Service Technician who wants more than just a driving job.

This is a hands-on field position for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys solving problems, and wants to build a long-term career in the septic industry.

As a Septic Service Technician, you’ll operate professional septic equipment, pump and service septic systems, inspect system components, educate homeowners, identify potential problems, and help customers protect one of the most important systems on their property.

You’re not just pumping tanks. You’re solving problems and taking care of customers.

Compensation & Earning Potential

We believe great technicians should be rewarded for great performance. You’ll have the security of a guaranteed hourly wage and the upside of uncapped commission.

• $25 per hour guaranteed base pay
• Eligible to earn commission when your commission exceeds your hourly pay. You always get paid the higher of the two.
• Uncapped commission potential with no ceiling on what you can earn
• $75,000–$100,000+ annual earning potential for top performers

What You’ll Do

As a Septic Service Technician, you’ll take ownership of the customer experience from the moment you arrive until the job is complete. Your responsibilities will include:

• Pump and service residential septic systems
• Safely operate septic vacuum/pump trucks and related equipment
• Locate septic tanks, lids, cleanouts, and system components
• Uncover and safely access septic tanks
• Inspect tanks and visible system components for potential concerns
• Identify signs of backups, damaged components, root intrusion, deterioration, or system failure
• Educate homeowners about their septic system and recommended maintenance
• Present customers with appropriate service and repair options when problems are discovered
• Assist with septic repairs, replacements, installations, and system troubleshooting
• Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on pumps, hoses, fittings, valves, and equipment
• Complete accurate service documentation, photos, load records, mileage logs, and disposal manifests
• Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Follow DOT, ADOT, environmental, disposal, and company safety requirements
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional truck
• Keep job sites clean and treat customers’ homes and properties with respect
• Communicate effectively with customers, managers, and field team members

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who takes ownership. You should be comfortable working independently, getting dirty, working outdoors, solving problems, and communicating professionally with homeowners.

Required

• Valid Arizona CDL Class A or B with Tanker Endorsement
• Clean and safe driving record
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Dependable and punctual
• Professional communication skills
• Strong safety-focused mindset
• Ability to work occasional weekends or on-call schedules when needed
• Ability to pass required background and drug screening

Preferred

• 2+ years of commercial driving experience
• Septic pumping or septic service experience
• Vacuum truck or water truck experience
• Plumbing, drain, excavation, construction, or underground utility experience
• Experience troubleshooting pumps and mechanical equipment
• Knowledge of DOT/ADOT requirements and environmental regulations
