Position Overview

The Server Assistant is an essential part of the guest experience at Sinatra Bar & Lounge. This position supports the service team by ensuring tables, stations, and the dining room remain polished, organized, and prepared throughout service.

At Sinatra, Server Assistants are expected to do more than clear plates and reset tables. They anticipate what the guest and the service team need next. Through attention to detail, urgency, teamwork, and strong situational awareness, the Server Assistant helps create the seamless, elevated style of hospitality our guests expect.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Service & Table Maintenance

• Assist servers in delivering a polished, attentive, and efficient dining experience.
• Maintain continuous awareness of assigned tables and anticipate guest needs.
• Clear finished plates, glassware, silverware, and unnecessary items promptly and discreetly.
• Reset and remark tables according to the next course and Sinatra service standards.
• Maintain appropriate water levels and assist with beverage service as directed.
• Replace soiled or damaged linens immediately, including tablecloths when necessary.
• Use the appropriate napkin based on the guest's attire, including black linen napkins for guests wearing dark clothing when appropriate.
• Keep tabletops clean, organized, and properly presented throughout the entire meal.
• Assist with crumb service and other table-maintenance procedures.
• Never allow clearing, resetting, or side work to interrupt the guest experience.

Food Running & Service Support

• Assist with running food quickly and accurately from the kitchen to the correct table.
• Learn table and seat numbers and use them consistently.
• Understand menu items, major ingredients, accompaniments, and proper presentation.
• Confirm that plates are complete and properly presented before leaving the kitchen.
• Communicate immediately with servers, managers, or culinary staff when something appears incorrect.
• Assist servers with pre-bussing, marking courses, resetting tables, and preparing for the next stage of service.
• Practice full hands in, full hands out whenever possible.
• Give right of way to guests and team members carrying food.
• Never reach unnecessarily across a guest or disrupt conversation when servicing a table.

Dining Room Standards

• Maintain a clean, organized, and visually polished dining room throughout service.
• Ensure service stations remain stocked, clean, and ready for use.
• Maintain proper quantities of polished silverware, glassware, linens, plates, and other service items.
• Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned.
• Help reset tables quickly without sacrificing presentation or attention to detail.
• Maintain awareness of lighting, cleanliness, furniture placement, floors, and other details that affect the appearance of the dining room.
• Immediately address or communicate anything that does not meet Sinatra standards.

Teamwork & Communication

• Work closely with servers, bartenders, hosts, food runners, culinary staff, and management.
• Communicate clearly and professionally throughout service.
• Respond quickly when another team member needs assistance.
• Never walk past something that needs attention because it is "not your section."
• Maintain strong spatial awareness in dining rooms, hallways, service areas, and the kitchen.
• Keep pathways clear and move with purpose without appearing rushed.
• Support the entire restaurant during high-volume periods.
• Treat coworkers with professionalism and respect at all times.

Service Expectations

Every Server Assistant at Sinatra is expected to:

• Arrive on time, in complete uniform, and prepared to work.
• Maintain professional grooming and appearance standards.
• Demonstrate urgency without sacrificing composure.
• Pay attention to details before a guest has to point them out.
• Remain engaged with the dining room rather than waiting to be told what to do.
• Know the evening's menu changes, features, 86'd items, events, and relevant service notes.
• Protect the guest experience through discretion, professionalism, and good judgment.
• Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and EcoSure standards.
• Handle glassware, china, silverware, and restaurant equipment carefully.
• Accept coaching professionally and continually work to improve.

Qualifications

• Previous fine-dining, upscale restaurant, or hospitality experience preferred but not required.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a high-volume environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Professional demeanor and appearance.
• Ability to remain composed and organized under pressure.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and safely lift and carry trays, bus tubs, plates, glassware, and restaurant supplies.
• Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other shifts required by the business.

A great Server Assistant is often noticed by the service team before being noticed by the guest.

Water is filled before it is empty. Finished plates disappear at the appropriate moment. The next course is already marked. Tables remain immaculate. Stations stay stocked. Food gets where it belongs. Servers have what they need before they have to ask.
