Avestruz Toledo is building more than a restaurant. We are creating a bold Mexican tapas experience centered on shareable food, crafted drinks, genuine hospitality, consistency, energy, and a culture that makes people want to come back. Every team member helps set the tone—from the first welcome to the final plate, glass, and goodbye.

THE ROLE

Servers guide guests through Avestruz Toledo’s Mexican tapas experience. Because the menu is designed for sharing, servers must understand the food and beverage offerings, explain pacing and portioning, coordinate the flow of dishes, anticipate needs, and communicate continuously with the kitchen, bar, and support team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Welcome guests promptly and create a warm, confident first impression.
• Explain the Mexican tapas concept, sharing format, menu ingredients, preparation methods, and beverage pairings.
• Guide guests on ordering quantities and pacing based on party size, preferences, and dietary needs.
• Take and enter food and beverage orders accurately, including allergies, modifications, and special requests.
• Monitor the timing and sequence of shareable dishes; communicate proactively with the kitchen and bar.
• Deliver food and beverages with proper presentation and accurate menu descriptions.
• Check back with purpose, refill beverages, clear and reset tables, and anticipate next needs without hovering.
• Use safe allergy communication and never guess about ingredients or preparation methods.
• Process payments accurately and follow cash, credit-card, discount, comp, and checkout procedures.
• Respond to concerns quickly, involve leadership when appropriate, and support service recovery.
• Complete opening, closing, side-work, cleaning, stocking, and dining-room readiness assignments.
• Support teammates during busy periods and maintain a clean, organized, guest-ready environment.
• Practice responsible alcohol service and follow identification-verification requirements.
• Represent Avestruz with professionalism, product knowledge, positive energy, and genuine care.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Restaurant serving or hospitality experience preferred; strong entry-level candidates will be considered.
• Ability to learn a detailed food and beverage menu and explain it in a clear, inviting way.
• Excellent communication, listening, organization, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tables while maintaining accuracy, warmth, and attention to detail.
• Basic math skills and comfort using a point-of-sale system.
• Ability to work effectively with cooks, bartenders, hosts, support staff, and management.
• Must satisfy all Ohio legal requirements for serving alcoholic beverages.
• Food-handler and alcohol-service certifications preferred.

PHYSICAL & SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, carry trays and service items up to 30 pounds, bend, reach, and move safely through a busy dining room. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals.

Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, opening or closing shifts, and special events as business needs require.

COMPENSATION

Starting Hourly Rate: $15.00 plus tips, based on experience, availability, product knowledge, and demonstrated hospitality skills.
