Full Job Description
CANOPY WINE LOUNGE
Server / Bartender
Palm Springs, CA | Full-Time
Pay range: $17-$19 per hour plus tips
Job Summary
Canopy is Palm Springs' most elevated wine-forward destination — a full-service restaurant and lounge where the glass is always half full and hospitality is an art form. We are transitioning into a premier dining destination, and we're looking for a Server/Bartender who brings deep wine knowledge, genuine warmth, and polished service to every guest interaction.
At Canopy, we believe that wine is a conversation starter, not a barrier. Our ideal candidate can guide a first-time wine drinker just as comfortably as they can geek out with a sommelier — always meeting guests exactly where they are.
We are part of Together Mohr Hospitality, the management group behind Boozehounds, Palm Springs' Michelin-recognized dining destination. Our standards are high, our culture is warm, and our team is tight-knit. If you are the kind of professional who takes your craft seriously but never takes yourself too seriously, you will feel right at home.
Our Culture & Values
We build our team around five core commitments:
- Unapologetically Us – We have a distinct point of view and we own it. Canopy has a voice, and our team amplifies it.
- Come Hell or High Water – We make it happen. No excuses, no shortcuts.
- All-Inclusive Hospitality – Every guest, every visit. No one feels like an outsider at our table.
- Protect the Brand – Our aesthetic, our reputation, and our guest experience are everything. Every detail matters.
- We’re Good Humans – We work hard, keep our word, support each other, and do the right thing.
In addition to a culture you’ll actually want to be part of, we offer employee discounts, partial health insurance for full-time staff, and real opportunities to grow within the Together Mohr Hospitality family.
Duties & Responsibilities
Service & Guest Experience
- Deliver a warm, knowledgeable, and attentive dining and lounge experience from arrival through farewell.
- Greet all guests promptly upon seating and establish genuine connection from the first interaction.
- Guide guests through the wine list with confidence — offering thoughtful suggestions based on taste preferences, occasion, and food pairings.
- Execute tableside wine service with proper technique: presenting the bottle, opening, pouring for approval, and serving in the correct order.
- Describe wines by region, varietal, vintage, and producer; explain the differences between styles (e.g., natural vs. conventional, Old World vs. New World).
- Accurately take and input food and beverage orders; ensure timely and correct delivery.
- Upsell food, wine, and specialty cocktails in a way that feels curated and genuine, not transactional.
- Anticipate guest needs and proactively address them before being asked.
Bar Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve cocktails, wine by the glass, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages according to Canopy standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar throughout the shift.
- Monitor guest consumption and adhere to all California ABC alcohol service regulations.
- Know all available wine by the glass and bottle offerings; be comfortable discussing producers, regions, and tasting notes.
Operations
- Complete all opening and closing side work thoroughly and on schedule.
- Maintain table cleanliness and presentation to Canopy’s standards throughout the shift.
- Assist with private events, wine dinners, and special programming as needed.
- Follow Canopy’s steps of service and standard operating procedures consistently.
- Participate in pre-shift tastings and ongoing wine and menu education.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of wine — regions, varietals, producers, and service technique (required).
- Genuine hospitality instinct: you enjoy taking care of people and it shows.
- Strong verbal communication skills; ability to describe wine and food in accessible, engaging terms.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment without sacrificing quality.
- Positive team-first attitude and collaborative approach.
- High attention to detail in service, presentation, and accuracy.
- Flexibility and openness to feedback, change, and ongoing education.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure under pressure.
- Respect for guest privacy and cultural sensitivity in all interactions.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum two years of bar or server experience in a full-service restaurant or bar, required.
- Wine certification (WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, or equivalent) a significant plus.
- Experience with wine-by-the-glass programs and curated wine lists preferred.
- Familiarity with POS systems and basic inventory or ordering platforms.
