Job Title Service Engineer

Job Purpose/Role Based across various locations around the UK,

the Service Engineer is responsible for the continued maintenance and overhaul of fleet assets to ensure they are fit for purpose.

Job Accountabilities

To undertake duties planned for you which will include but are not limited to; routine examinations of our shunter fleet, carrying out preventative maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis, major and minor repair work, re-activation of shunters which have been stored awaiting repair, and workshop-based activities.

The applicant will be required to travel across the UK to various sites, this will occasionally require overnight stays.

This role may also include overtime and the ability to be on call when needed.

Carry out all operational and maintenance activities in accordance with our vehicle maintenance instructions (VMI) and RMS Locotec’ s established maintenance criteria.

Job Skills,

The successful applicant will;

• Possess relevant experience working with shunting locomotives or equivalent.
• Be willing to work at various customer depot locations across the UK to undertake maintenance exams, fault-finding, inspections, and repairs.
• Will work professionally as part of a team, liaising and collaborating with other external personnel as required.
• They will report to the Fleet Engineer.
• Act professionally and courteously with staff and customers.
• Be able to meet the physical requirements demanded of the job.
• Carry out any relevant work within your capabilities.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• Experience in a similar role
• Service engineering/maintenance background.
• Full UK Driving Licence (No penalty points or previous disqualifications would be desirable).

Upon employment, specific in-house and external training will be provided to ensure the successful applicant meets the necessary competency requirements.

Desirable

• NVQ Level 3 or similar qualification
• Apprentice trained.
• UK Rail Industry Experience.
• Personal Track Safety (PTS) Holder.
• Working at Height accreditation.
• Hold a forklift truck competency.
• Supply your own hand tools.

Safety Responsibilities

Follow company healthy and safety procedures and RAMS (Risk assessments method statement) and follow all recommendations.

Ensure safe working practices when completing all tasks.

Hours of work

Standard working week: Minimum 40 hours, planned Monday through Friday, plus any additional hours as required.

Holiday Entitlement

23 days annually, plus 8 bank/public holidays.

Job Type

Full-time, permanent position following the successful completion of a 6-month probation period.

Salary

To be negotiated with the successful applicant based on qualifications and experience.
