What they need

Service Engineer / Pipefitter - Compressed Air

£35,000–£42,000 basic salary + overtime + bonus opportunities

South East | Company Vehicle | Training & Career Progression

CAPS, Compressors & Pipework Systems is a growing compressed air specialist based in Essex, and we are looking to expand our engineering team.

We are interested in hearing from either an experienced Compressed Air Service Engineer or an experienced Pipefitter / Mechanical Fitter who wants to develop their career into compressed air engineering.

This is an opportunity to join a specialist business where no two days are the same. You will work on a wide variety of customer sites and projects, from compressor servicing and fault finding through to complete compressed air installations and pipework systems.

Why Join CAPS?

We want our engineers to develop with the business, and we offer a role where you can build your skills, take on more responsibility and increase your earning potential.

What we offer:

  • £35,000–£42,000 basic salary for experienced Compressor Engineers, depending on experience.
  • Overtime opportunities and performance-related bonus/earning potential.
  • Company van provided.
  • 33 days holiday, including bank holidays.
  • Full training and ongoing development, particularly for candidates coming from a pipefitting or mechanical fitting background.
  • Career progression within a growing specialist business.
  • The opportunity to develop into a dual Pipefitter / Compressed Air Engineer role.
  • A varied workload covering service, maintenance, fault finding, installation and commissioning.
  • The opportunity to work with leading compressed air equipment and manufacturers.
  • A professional working environment where your experience and ideas are valued.
  • The chance to develop long-term customer relationships rather than simply attending site and moving onto the next job.

About CAPS

CAPS is a specialist compressed air company providing complete, tailor-made compressed air solutions to customers across a wide range of industries.

Our work covers the complete compressed air system, including compressors, dryers, filtration, air receivers, pipework, controls, installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance.

We work with established compressed air manufacturers and provide our customers with reliable, energy-efficient solutions and ongoing technical support.

As the business continues to grow, we are looking for engineers who want to be part of that growth and develop their own careers with us.

The Role

Based from our branch in Essex, you will work throughout the South East, visiting customer sites and supporting a wide range of service and installation activities.

Depending on your experience, the role can be tailored towards either compressed air service engineering, pipefitting, or a combination of both.

Main Responsibilities

  • Carrying out routine servicing and maintenance on compressors and associated equipment.
  • Preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
  • Fault finding and diagnosing problems with compressed air equipment.
  • Supporting compressor, dryer, filtration and associated equipment installations.
  • Installing compressed air pipework systems on customer sites.
  • Working with aluminium, stainless steel and other industrial pipework systems.
  • Reading and working from drawings and installation layouts.
  • Supporting equipment commissioning.
  • Identifying system improvements and additional customer requirements where appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate service and maintenance records.
  • Building strong and professional relationships with customers.
  • Assisting with quotations and pricing for service and installation work where required.
  • Carrying out technical data-logging audits and assisting with analysing results – full training will be provided.
  • Providing support to the branch when required, including deliveries, collections and general engineering support.

Pipefitter / Mechanical Fitter – Career Development Opportunity

If you are an experienced Pipefitter, Mechanical Fitter or Industrial Pipework Installer, you do not need previous compressed air experience.

We can provide the training required to develop your knowledge of:

  • Screw compressors
  • Variable speed compressors
  • Refrigerant and desiccant dryers
  • Filtration
  • Air receivers
  • Compressed air controls
  • Compressed air systems
  • Servicing and preventative maintenance
  • Fault finding and commissioning

The aim is to develop the right candidate into a dual Pipefitter / Compressed Air Service Engineer, giving you the opportunity to broaden your skills and take on a more varied engineering role.

What We're Looking For

Experienced Compressed Air Engineer

Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous experience servicing and maintaining compressed air systems and screw compressors.
  • Good mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability.
  • Experience working independently on customer sites.
  • A professional and customer-focused approach.

Pipefitter / Mechanical Fitter

Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience installing industrial pipework.
  • Good mechanical and practical fitting skills.
  • The ability to read drawings and understand pipework layouts.
  • Good attention to detail and pride in your workmanship.
  • A genuine interest in developing your knowledge of compressors and compressed air systems.
  • The willingness to learn and progress into a wider engineering role.

For All Candidates

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good understanding of health and safety.
  • Professional appearance and approach.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the South East.
  • Ability to work independently while also being part of a small, growing team.
  • A positive, practical and proactive attitude.

The Person We're Looking For

Technical experience is important, but attitude is equally important to us.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys solving problems and dealing with customers, and wants to develop their career within a specialist engineering business.

We are members of the British Compressed Air Society, and have Safecontractor and Achilles accreditations.

Whether you already have compressed air experience or are an experienced fitter looking for the next step in your career, we are interested in talking to you.

Full-time, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday or weekend work when required.

Salary: £35,000–£42,000 basic salary + overtime + performance-related bonus opportunities, depending on experience.
