Service Technician

Salary: £30,000–£32,000 per year
Location: Wakefield Europort, Normanton
Hours: 6:00am–2:00pm, Monday to Friday

Abbey is looking for a practical, mechanically minded Service Technician to join our Service Centre team.

This is a hands on workshop role repairing and servicing industrial production tools used by manufacturing customers across the UK.

You do not need previous experience repairing industrial tools. We are looking for someone with good mechanical ability who is comfortable fault finding, stripping equipment down, replacing components, rebuilding it and testing it. Full product training will be provided.

Initially, you will predominantly work on High Frequency Grinders, before developing onto a wider range of air and battery-powered industrial tools.

What you'll be doing

• Inspecting customer tools received for repair or service.
• Diagnosing mechanical and basic electrical faults.
• Stripping down equipment and identifying worn, damaged or failed components.
• Identifying the parts and work required to complete repairs.
• Repairing, rebuilding and testing equipment.
• Using Abbey's service system to allocate spare parts and record work completed.
• Completing accurate service and repair reports.
• Ensuring repaired equipment is ready to return to the customer.

What we're looking for

You don't need previous industrial tool repair experience.

We are looking for someone who:

• Is mechanically minded and enjoys practical work.
• Is confident using hand tools and workshop equipment.
• Can understand how mechanical equipment works.
• Is comfortable fault finding and solving practical problems.
• Can strip down and rebuild mechanical equipment accurately.
• Is comfortable using computers and digital systems.
• Is methodical and takes pride in doing a job properly.
• Is willing to learn new products and repair techniques.

Relevant experience could come from maintenance, mechanical fitting, vehicle repair, machine assembly, workshop engineering or another practical mechanical environment.

Useful but not essential

• Maintenance Technician or Maintenance Engineer experience.
• Mechanical or electrical engineering experience.
• Repair or servicing experience.
• Basic electrical fault finding.
• Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ or similar qualification.

Training and development

Previous industrial tool experience is not required.

You will be trained on Abbey products and repair processes, initially focusing on High Frequency Grinders before progressing onto other equipment as your skills develop.

This role would suit someone who already has good practical mechanical ability and wants to develop into a skilled Service Technician within an engineering environment.
