Genfare | San Antonio, TX (On-site)

Title: Service Technician
Company: Genfare, a business of SPX Technologies (NYSE: SPXC)
Location: San Antonio, TX – on-site, shop-based
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM; occasional weekend work and overtime
Pay: $21–$25 per hour, based on experience
Employment Type: Full Time

About Genfare
Genfare builds the fare collection systems that keep public transit moving. Its lineage goes back to the first transit farebox in 1880, and today Genfare accounts for more than 80% of validating fareboxes in the U.S. and Canada and serves 400+ transit agencies. Genfare is a business of SPX Technologies, a NYSE-listed industrial company operating in about 15 countries.

The Role
The Service Technician repairs, troubleshoots and refurbishes Genfare fare collection equipment at our San Antonio service shop. You will diagnose electronic and mechanical faults, return devices to spec, and help process RMAs so transit agencies get their equipment back in service fast. This is a bench-based role with no travel – you work the same shop, the same hours, every week. You don't need prior fare equipment experience: if you have basic electronics and mechanical skills, Genfare will train you to service its equipment, starting with fareboxes.

What You'll Do

  • Learn to service Genfare fare collection equipment, primarily fareboxes, through hands-on training
  • Diagnose and repair fareboxes and related assemblies, such as bill validators, coin mechanisms, printers, motors, sensors and locks
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults with a multimeter, schematics and diagnostic software, then replace or repair the failed part or module
  • Process RMAs from receipt through repair, test, documentation and return shipment
  • Refurbish, test and quality-check units before they ship
  • Record repair actions and parts used in the work-order system
  • Keep the shop organized, safe and ESD-compliant
  • Take on additional shop duties as assigned

What You Need

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years of experience servicing or repairing electronic, mechanical or electromechanical equipment (civilian or military)
  • Basic electronics knowledge (voltage, current, resistance) and comfort using a multimeter
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with hand and power tools
  • Willingness to learn and follow repair procedures carefully
  • Basic computer skills for work orders and email
  • Reliable and detail-oriented
  • Available for occasional weekend work and overtime
  • Able to pass a background check and drug screen [confirm requirements with Genfare]

Nice to Have

  • Associate's degree or technical certificate in electronics, electromechanical or a related field

  • Military electronics or avionics training

  • Experience servicing cash-handling or self-service equipment: fareboxes, ATMs, kiosks, vending, gaming, parking revenue or currency counters

  • Component-level soldering and rework; IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification

  • Experience with RMA, depot repair or ticketing workflows

  • Familiarity with Genfare equipment (Fast Fare, Odyssey, Vendstar) or other transit fare systems

Schedule and Work Environment

  • Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with occasional weekend work and overtime based on workload
  • 100% on-site at the San Antonio service shop – no travel required
  • Shop and bench environment with ESD controls; safety glasses and other PPE as required
  • Regularly stand, sit, bend and reach for extended periods
  • Lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs [confirm limit with Genfare]
  • Good near vision and color perception for reading schematics, wire colors and component markings

Pay and Benefits

  • $21–$25 per hour, based on experience

  • Overtime paid at time-and-a-half

  • [Benefits summary – medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, holidays; confirm with Genfare]

  • Stable, predictable schedule with no travel

  • Hands-on work on equipment that hundreds of transit agencies depend on every day
