About Us
Walker Heating and Cooling has been serving Tyler and the surrounding communities since 1999. We have built our reputation on quality work, honesty, and treating people right. Along with residential and light commercial service, we are one of the few shops in the region that also installs and services geothermal systems (don't worry, we will train you).
Position Overview
We’re looking for an experienced HVAC service technician who can step in and become a technical leader on our service team.
This role starts with being an excellent technician: diagnosing difficult problems, making quality repairs, communicating confidently with customers, writing great tickets, and consistently getting the job done right the first time. You’ll work on the systems we see every day, including Daikin FIT and other variable-speed and communicating equipment, and become someone our team can rely on when the diagnosis isn’t obvious.
But we’re looking for more than a great technician. We have two newer technicians who are hungry to learn, and we want this person to help raise the technical level of the entire team. You’ll have the opportunity to mentor, teach, troubleshoot alongside other technicians, and share the knowledge you’ve built throughout your career.
Over time, the goal is for this role to grow into a service leadership position with greater responsibility for training, technical standards, field support, and the overall performance of our service department.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose complex HVAC problems accurately and efficiently, with a focus on quality repairs and minimizing callbacks
- Service and repair residential and light-commercial HVAC systems, with a strong emphasis on variable-speed and communicating equipment
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience through technical expertise, professionalism, clear communication, and ethical recommendations
- Clearly explain system problems, repair options, and recommendations so customers can make informed decisions
- Write thorough, accurate, and professional service tickets that clearly document the diagnosis and work performed
- Identify legitimate repair, maintenance, and replacement opportunities and work with the team to help customers make the right decision
- Serve as a technical resource for junior technicians and help them develop their diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Participate in ongoing training and help build a culture of continuous technical improvement
- Help establish and maintain high technical and service standards across the department
- Take on increasing responsibility as the service department grows, with the opportunity to develop into a formal service leadership role
Requirements
- 5+ years of HVAC service experience with a proven track record of accurate diagnostics, quality repairs, and low callbacks
- NATE certification, EPA 608 certification, and active TDLR ACR registration
- Deep experience troubleshooting and diagnosing variable-speed and communicating systems, including Daikin FIT
- Strong customer service skills with a history of positive customer feedback and professional recommendations
- Eager to mentor junior technicians, share knowledge, and grow into greater leadership responsibility
- Driven to build a long-term career with a growing company
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen
- Willing to participate in after-hours and weekend coverage
