Mazzella Companies — Service Estimator

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Service Estimator to handle our crane inspection repair quoting and customer engagement efforts. In this role, you will analyze technical inspection reports, consult with customers on the findings, collaborate with our service team to determine comprehensive repair scopes, build accurate and profitable estimates, and present proposals directly to customers. This position is ideal for an individual with strong technical aptitude and consultative sales skills who excels at managing a quote pipeline and securing customer approvals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze technical crane inspection reports, field technician notes, and safety documentation to evaluate repair requirements and identify necessary labor, parts, and equipment.

  • Consult directly with customers to review inspection findings, explain technical recommendations, answer operational questions, and partner with the service team to establish well-defined repair scopes.

  • Develop accurate, competitive, and profitable repair estimates that align with company pricing guidelines and customer operational requirements.

  • Deliver and present proposals directly to customer decisionmakers, clearly outlining the scope of work and guiding clients through their options.

  • Execute proactive, structured follow-up on outstanding estimates to address customer feedback, resolve concerns, and secure formal approvals.

  • Manage and maintain the active quote pipeline within NetSuite, ensuring all customer communication, opportunity updates, and deal statuses are recorded accurately.

  • Partner closely with Service Specialist and branch leadership on complex or stalled opportunities requiring additional strategy.

  • Serve as an internal resource for field technicians and branch personnel regarding component identification and repair estimation.

  • Participate in weekly branch production meetings to review quote turnaround, win rates, and pipeline health.

  • Qualifications & Requirements

    • At least two years of experience in technical estimating, service quoting, parts sales, or a related industrial or mechanical role; equivalent military or trade experience will also be considered.
    • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical or electrical inspection reports, technical schematics, and equipment documentation.
    • Strong consultative communication skills, with proven confidence presenting technical solutions and conducting follow-up conversations with commercial clients.
    • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a high degree of precision in labor and material calculations.
    • Excellent organizational habits and the discipline to prioritize multiple quote requests in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; hands-on experience using CRM or ERP systems such as NetSuite is strongly preferred.
    • A high school diploma or GED is required; completion of a trade school program, military technical training, or an industry-specific service program is preferred.
    • A valid driver’s license in good standing that meets company driving requirements.
    • Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check, physical examination, drug screen, and E-Verify authorization.

Education

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; trade school, military or crane service training program preferred.

Experience & Skills

  • 2 years in a sales or service role or equivalent military experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Willingness to stay educated in the crane industry; as cranes become increasingly sophisticated, need to be increasingly computer literate and technologically savvy.
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated and disciplined with the ability to multi-task
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and planning skills are required
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent math skills and overall PC literacy (Microsoft Office) are required
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing that meets company requirements
  • Bi-lingual capabilities (English/Spanish) is a plus
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check, drug screen and E-verify
