Contract Opportunity
Summary: We are seeking an independent contractor to answer, direct, support, and log calls to the San Francisco Rapid Response Network’s 24 hour hotline, during non-standard office hours (e.g. evening, overnight or weekends). You will join a team of dedicated immigrant rights advocates working to protect the rights of immigrant communities and uphold San Francisco’s sanctuary policies.
About Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA)
CAA was founded in 1969 to protect the civil and political rights of Chinese Americans and to advance multiracial democracy in the United States. Today, CAA is a progressive voice in and on behalf of the broader Asian American and Pacific Islander community. CAA advocates for systemic change that protects immigrant rights, promotes language diversity, and remedies racial and social injustice.
Overview
The San Francisco Rapid Response Network is a collaboration between SFILEN and SFILDC. We have organized and implemented this system to respond to heightened enforcement actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). CAA is one of the founding members of SFILEN and SFRRN and currently one of the dispatching organizations for SFRRN’s hotline.
Our system consists of the following three components:
24 Hour Hotline. The number is 415-200-1548. We have language capacity in Spanish, Arabic, Tagalog and Chinese (both Cantonese and Mandarin). With access to telephonic interpretation services, we have capacity to serve callers who speak most commonly-spoken languages in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Raid Verification – We do raid verification for all calls of alleged ICE Enforcement activity within San Francisco. Raid verification is an important component of our work in order to dispel myths and lessen fear.
Attorney Activation – If an individual is detained after an ICE raid or ICE Activity we will activate our attorneys to go down to 630 Sansome, San Francisco (ICE immigration processing center) to file for representation of the individual. We will also work to secure long term representation if the person needs it.
CAA is seeking a contractor to be the primary dispatcher covering evening and overnight shifts for the 24-hour hotline of the San Francisco Rapid Response Network (SFRRN). The contractor should have access to reliable internet connection, a computer and a SFRRN dispatcher’s phone during the shifts.
Scope of Work:
- Serve as the primary CAA dispatcher for SFRRN hotline, answering live hotline calls for a minimum of 16 hours a week, during non-standard office hours.
- Answer and/or immediately return all calls when actively dispatching.
- Triage phone calls, provide accurate information and refer callers for supportive services as appropriate.
- Follow SFRRN protocols and guidelines when responding to calls
- Attend meetings and training for updates on changes to hotline operations
- Track and document the hotline and immigration enforcement and detention trends
- Provide reports with data and trends of calls, referrals, and follow up actions
Compensation
- $25 per hour
