Shift Leader

Job Summary

Join the Potbelly Sandwich Works team as a Shift Leader and help lead a fun, fast-paced restaurant where great food and exceptional guest service come together every day. As a Shift Leader, you'll support the General Manager and Assistant Manager by leading shifts, coaching Team Members, ensuring operational excellence, and creating a welcoming environment for both guests and employees.

We are currently hiring for Full-Time Shift Leaders. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. This is an hourly position offering competitive pay, flexible scheduling, leadership development, and opportunities for career advancement.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily restaurant operations during assigned shifts while ensuring exceptional guest service.
• Coach, motivate, and support Team Members to maintain Potbelly's standards for food quality, hospitality, cleanliness, and speed of service.
• Assign tasks and oversee multiple workstations, including sandwich line, register, food prep, dining room, and catering orders.
• Prepare and serve made-to-order sandwiches, salads, soups, shakes, cookies, and other menu items according to company standards.
• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
• Open and/or close the restaurant, following all operational and cash handling procedures.
• Assist with scheduling, training new Team Members, and ongoing employee development.
• Handle guest concerns professionally and resolve issues quickly to ensure a positive dining experience.
• Monitor inventory levels, restock supplies, and assist with receiving deliveries and product rotation.
• Operate the POS system, process transactions accurately, and complete shift cash reconciliation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked restaurant throughout each shift.
• Safely operate the meat slicer and other kitchen equipment following all required training and safety procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by restaurant management.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Previous restaurant, food service, or hospitality experience required; leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to motivate and coach team members in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and cash handling procedures.
• Dependable, organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
