Shift Operator (Electrical Substation)

Job Summary

We are seeking Shift Operators to support the daily operation and maintenance of electrical substation facilities serving our data centre infrastructure. The successful candidates will be responsible for monitoring electrical equipment, conducting routine inspections, identifying abnormalities, and supporting troubleshooting activities to ensure safe and reliable power supply.

This position requires individuals with a basic understanding of electrical systems, good safety awareness, and the ability to work effectively in a shift-based operational environment.

Job Responsibilities

1. Monitor daily operations of electrical substation equipment and power distribution systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
2. Conduct routine inspections of transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, electrical cables, and associated equipment.
3. Identify equipment abnormalities, assist in troubleshooting electrical faults, and support corrective and preventive maintenance activities.
4. Monitor and maintain outdoor electrical cables and related infrastructure within the data centre campus.
5. Maintain accurate operational records, inspection checklists, maintenance logs, and shift handover reports.
6. Assist in implementing electrical safety procedures, emergency response measures, and equipment isolation activities under supervision.
7. Coordinate with Shift Supervisors, engineers, and maintenance contractors to ensure smooth daily operations and timely resolution of equipment issues.

Job Requirements

1. Diploma or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
2. Previous experience in electrical substation operations, power distribution, or similar electrical facilities is preferred.
3. Basic knowledge of electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protection systems.
4. Familiarity with electrical safety procedures, equipment inspections, and basic fault troubleshooting.
5. Good communication skills, teamwork, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting.
6. Able to communicate in basic English and follow operational instructions effectively.
7. Willing to work rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a 132kV or higher voltage electrical substation.
• Experience in electrical facilities supporting data centres, utilities, industrial plants, or other critical infrastructure.
• Familiarity with electrical safety practices and equipment isolation procedures.
• Possession of a relevant Chargeman certification would be an added advantage.
