HOTEL & RESTAURANT SHIFT SUPERVISOR

We are looking for an experienced, confident and highly capable Shift Supervisor to join our team at the Delmont Hotel & The View Restaurant.

This is an extremely varied, hands-on role covering all aspects of the day-to-day operation of a busy hotel and restaurant. We are looking for someone with extensive hospitality experience and previous leadership or supervisory experience who is comfortable taking responsibility for a shift and, when required, being solely in charge of the operation.

This is not a position where you simply supervise from the sidelines. You will be expected to lead the team, organise the shift and ensure standards are maintained, while also being completely prepared to roll up your sleeves and work alongside the team wherever you are needed.

THE ROLE

As Shift Supervisor, you will oversee and assist across multiple areas of the hotel and restaurant, including:

• Supervising, organising and supporting staff throughout their shifts
• Allocating duties and ensuring jobs are completed correctly and within appropriate timescales
• Monitoring staff productivity, presentation and standards of work
• Liaising between the kitchen, housekeeping, restaurant, bar, reception and management teams
• Ensuring the smooth running of the hotel and restaurant during your shift
• Taking responsibility for the operation when senior management are not present
• Checking guests in and dealing with arrivals and departures
• Taking and managing hotel bookings
• Maintaining and updating the hotel booking system accurately
• Answering telephone calls and responding to emails
• Dealing with hotel, restaurant and function enquiries
• Handling guest queries, requests and complaints face-to-face, over the telephone and by email
• Resolving problems calmly, professionally and confidently
• Serving behind the bar and carrying out normal bar duties
• Working within the restaurant and waiting on tables for both hotel and restaurant guests
• Supporting hotel breakfast and evening meal services when required
• Helping teams complete end-of-shift duties and ensuring areas are properly closed down
• Checking cleaning and closing procedures have been completed to the required standard
• Assisting with cleaning, washing up and pot washing when required
• Carrying out housekeeping duties if operational circumstances require additional support

There is no "that's not my department" in this role. If an area needs support, the Shift Supervisor is expected to be capable and willing to step in and help get the job done.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The successful candidate must have significant previous experience within the hospitality industry, ideally covering both hotel and restaurant operations.

You must also have previous leadership, supervisory or management experience and be confident directing and organising a team.

FLEXIBILITY IS ESSENTIAL

Hospitality does not always go according to plan, so flexibility is a major part of this position.

You will need to be able to move between departments depending on the needs of the business and be prepared to help cover holidays, sickness and unexpected staffing shortages when required.

One shift may involve reception, bookings and guest enquiries; another may require you to organise restaurant service, support the bar, assist housekeeping or help the team close down after a busy service.

For this reason, we are specifically looking for an experienced hospitality all-rounder who understands how the different departments of a hotel and restaurant work together.

Above all, we need someone who can be trusted to take responsibility. When you are the senior person on shift, you must be confident enough to take charge, organise the team, make sensible decisions, maintain standards and ensure the hotel and restaurant continue to operate smoothly.
