Shift Supervisor

Take charge of the shifts that keeps our Bradford depot moving.

Every day, our Bradford depot moves parcels and pallets to businesses and homes across the UK. Drivers need to get out on time, trunks need to leave on time, and every collection and delivery needs to go right first time. Our Shift Supervisors make that happen.

As Shift Supervisor, you'll lead our warehouse team and drivers through the AM and PM shift (on rotation). You'll make the decisions, solve problems as they come up and keep the operation running safely, efficiently and on time. If you're an experienced manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment, we'd love to hear from you. Parcel or pallet experience is a bonus but not essential, as we'll give you full training in how our operation works.

What you'll be doing

• Leading the shift. You'll supervise and support our warehouse and driving teams, making the best use of your people and vehicles every shift.
• Getting the drivers out. On the AM shift, you'll check collection routing, sort out driver issues such as weight and bulk, and allocate work to spare drivers in the most time- and cost-effective way.
• Running parcels and pallets. You'll make sure every collection and delivery follows our network procedures, and that pallet vehicles are loaded safely and on time.
• Keeping freight on track. On the PM shift, you'll work with Customer Operations on any delivery or collection issues, make sure collections are scanned and segregated correctly, check driver debriefs, and get every trunk loaded, scanned and away on time.
• Spotting opportunities. You'll identify customers sending large volumes of freight, so we can plan ahead and grow the business.
• Keeping on top of the admin. You'll manage parcel returns, re-deliveries, delivery routing and consignment data, as well as absence reporting, holiday allocations and uniform requests.
• Communicating clearly. You'll keep the Operations team and Senior Shift Manager updated, attend the daily operations meeting, and prepare a thorough handover for the next shift with a plan for the next day.

Keeping everyone safe

A busy depot means FLTs, vehicles, pallets and people all sharing the same space. Safety comes first on every shift, and as Shift Supervisor, you'll set the standard. You'll:

• Lead a safe working routine that meets Health and Safety standards and company procedures
• Make sure daily FLT checks are completed and kept up to date
• Make sure transport checks are completed, and any vehicle changes are logged
• Make sure pallet vehicles are loaded safely and securely
• Report near misses and accidents promptly in line with company procedure, and follow them up
• Keep the warehouse, office and yard clean, tidy and free from obstructions
• Check vehicles for leftover freight and waste at the end of the day
• Keep the premises and vehicles secure at all times

What we're looking for

• Proven management or supervisory experience, leading teams in a busy, fast-paced operational environment
• A confident leader who can motivate warehouse staff and drivers and make good decisions under pressure
• Strong organisation and admin skills, and confidence with routing, consignment data and transport management systems
• A strong understanding of warehouse and transport Health and Safety, and the confidence to challenge unsafe practices when you see them
• A clear communicator who keeps colleagues and managers informed
• Flexibility to support the needs of the business, including covering other shifts when needed
• Experience in parcels, pallets, courier or logistics would be an advantage, but isn't essential
• Desirable: IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent, FLT licence, first aid certificate
