What they need

Shift Supervisor – Residential Services (Heron House)

Location: East Longmeadow, MA (Heron House – Enhanced Medical Group Living Environment)

Compensation: $24.00 / hour

Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week) | Openings across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts

At the Center for Human Development (CHD), Care Finds a Way. We are a diverse, inclusive, and dynamic team dedicated to promoting, enhancing, and protecting the dignity and welfare of people in need.

We are seeking a hands-on, proactive Shift Supervisor to join our team at The Heron House, a specialized Enhanced Medical Group Living Environment (EMGLE). The Heron House supports adults with complex medical, psychiatric, behavioral, and functional needs in a community-based setting. We believe that effective leadership means showing up, working alongside your team, setting clear expectations, and ensuring every resident receives safe, respectful, person-centered care.

The Opportunity: Lead, Model, and Direct:

As a Shift Supervisor, you will provide active leadership and direct supervision to the CNAs and Direct Care Staff assigned to your shift. This is an in-shift supervisory role—you will actively participate in resident care and daily activities while managing staff performance, shift coordination, and team development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development: Directly supervise CNAs and Direct Care Staff. Conduct regular 1-on-1 supervision, provide ongoing coaching, complete performance evaluations, and address performance concerns promptly.
  • Direct Resident Care: Work directly alongside your team to support activities of daily living (ADLs), personal care, mobility support, and daily routines. Model respectful, person-centered support and professional boundaries.
  • Shift Operations & Coordination: Organize staff assignments, manage shift coverage for call-outs, plan meaningful resident activities, and ensure scheduled medical appointments and transportation arrangements are completed.
  • Safety & Communication: Partner with nursing and clinical teams to integrate medical and behavioral care. Ensure timely incident reporting, accurate shift documentation, and clear handoffs between incoming and outgoing shifts.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in human services, healthcare, or a related field preferred).
  • Experience: Experience in residential human services, behavioral health, healthcare, or disability services required. Experience with complex medical, psychiatric, or behavioral needs is strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory Skills: Demonstrated leadership ability with an interest in coaching and managing staff. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Core Competencies: Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and crisis-management skills. Ability to balance direct care with administrative supervision.

Success Factors:

  • Lead by Example: Comfortable working side-by-side with direct care staff while holding the team accountable to high standards of care.
  • Clear & Direct Communicator: Comfortable providing constructive feedback, setting boundaries, and maintaining open lines of communication across all disciplines.
  • Resilient & Calm: Exercises sound judgment, maintains composure during challenging situations, and follows established safety protocols.
  • Why Join The Heron House?
  • Make a Meaningful Impact: Help adults with complex needs live with stability, dignity, and independence.
  • Lead Through Action: Develop your career and supervisory skills in an active, hands-on leadership role.
  • Collaborative Culture: Partner closely with nursing, clinical, and administrative professionals in an integrated care model.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: CHD offers a competitive benefits package including health, dental, and life insurance, paid time off, and paid holidays.

Care Finds a Way:

At CHD, celebrating differences is a daily practice. Multicultural, multilingual, and fluent in sign language, CHD is a proud reflection of those we serve.

Connect with our team today! If you are a hands-on leader ready to build a strong, accountable, and compassionate care team, apply today to join us at The Heron House!
