Permanent: Full-Time, 22-36 hours (3-5 days) per week

Weekend availability required, 3 Saturdays and 3 Sundays per month

Pay rate - £12.71 + Sales commission

Brighton’s newest independent guitar shop is hiring!

Since opening in November 2025, Outpost is growing quickly and we’re ready to appoint our first employee - someone who can contribute something unique to support this growth.

We’re a small shop so the position will grow with the business. We can guarantee a minimum of 20 hours per week with more hours likely. Payment will start at minimum wage plus a small sales commission (likely £100-150 per month)

Weekend availability is a must, with three Saturdays (10-6) and three Sundays (11-4) of every month to be worked.

An understanding of guitars and musical equipment is required, however a good understanding of people is equally important. The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills, an outgoing personality and be happy talking to people all day.

We’re particularly keen to hear from applicants who have something extra to offer. Perhaps you can bring in useful skills from a previous role, or from your education. As a small business with big ambitions we turn our hand to a huge range of daily tasks - social media management, building back-office systems, maintaining a website, designing marketing materials, content creation, book-keeping etc. We’d love to hear about what additional skills you can bring to Outpost.

Our aim is to build a business that will grow quickly over the next few years. Getting in at this very early stage will allow the successful applicant to build a role for themselves which will make the best of their talents and experience.

Essential Criteria

Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a customer facing, in-person role

A basic understanding of guitars and related equipment/products

Outgoing personality and social stamina with excellent communication skills

Presentable

Fluent spoken English

Desirable criteria

Professional experience with, and knowledge of, guitars and associated products

Extensive retail and/or sales experience

Experience in social media and/or marketing

Experience in day-to-day operations of a small business

Experience keyholding and cash handling

Daily Duties

Greeting and serving customers from the shop counter

Helping customers make choices of instruments, equipment and accessories, often handling multiple customers at once.

Maintaining the presentation of the shop and its security

Ensuring that shop records and website listings are kept up to date

Stockroom duties and FOH restocking

Taking payments and cash handling

Assisting with second-hand buy-ins

We will be reviewing applications by hand. This job requires a genuine ability to connect and communicate - applications clearly made with AI will be dismissed without hesitation.

We intend to interview applicants in late October, and conduct short trial shifts with the aim of onboarding the successful applicant in early November.
