POSITION SUMMARY

The Shop Foreman leads day-to-day activity on the shop floor, working directly alongside service technicians to keep repair and maintenance work moving safely, accurately, and efficiently in accordance with company and manufacturer standards. This role assigns and prioritizes daily work, provides hands-on technical guidance, and performs complex diagnostics and repairs alongside the team. The Shop Foreman monitors job progress, work order accuracy, and repair quality on the floor, and serves as the first point of contact for technicians on troubleshooting, procedure, and safety questions. This position works closely with the Service Manager, Parts Department, and technicians to keep jobs on schedule, maintain a safe and organized shop, and deliver quality repairs the customer can count on.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Shop Floor Operations & Workflow

  • Perform hands-on diagnostics, repairs, reconditioning, and new equipment setup, including direct participation in complex or difficult repairs.
  • Monitor job progress and technician productivity throughout the day; adjust assignments to keep work orders on schedule.
  • Coordinate with the Parts Department to confirm parts availability and avoid delays on active jobs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve shop workflow, reduce rework, and eliminate bottlenecks on the floor.

Work Order & Quality Control

  • Review completed repairs, inspections, and testing for accuracy and completeness before work orders are closed.
  • Verify labor and parts documentation on work orders meets company, manufacturer, and warranty requirements.
  • Confirm required repairs, inspections, and testing are complete before equipment is released, flagging any concerns to the Service Manager.

Customer & Communication Support

  • Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers on the shop floor.
  • Support timely resolution of customer concerns related to in-progress repairs, keeping the Service Manager informed.
  • Escalate recurring equipment issues, customer concerns, or work order problems to the Service Manager as needed.

Technician Support & Mentoring

  • Train and mentor technicians and apprentices on the floor to build technical skill, efficiency, and repair quality.
  • Support technician participation in company and OEM technical and product training offerings.
  • Model correct procedures, tool use, and work habits for the team.
  • Meet regularly with the Service Manager to review floor performance, technician assignments, and job status.

Safety, Organization & Policy Compliance

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop floor for all service personnel.
  • Enforce company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements on the floor.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment, tools, and safe work practices at all times.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement among the shop team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example on the shop floor, direct the work of others, and manage multiple jobs in a fast-paced service environment.
  • Strong hands-on problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with a commitment to repair quality, safety, and timely equipment turnaround.
  • Proficiency with applicable service, work order, or dealership management systems
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
