Shop Forklift Technician

Fitzgerald Equipment Company is seeking a dependable and mechanically skilled Shop Technician to join our team at our Mackinaw, Illinois location.

This is an in-house shop position responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining forklifts and other material handling equipment. We are looking for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical work, takes pride in quality repairs, and works well as part of a service team.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain material handling equipment in our Mackinaw shop
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and equipment inspections
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and related equipment issues
• Complete repairs accurately and efficiently
• Inspect equipment and identify additional repair or maintenance needs
• Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper and safe operation
• Complete service documentation and repair records accurately
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Properly use and maintain tools and shop equipment
• Work closely with Service, Parts, and other departments to complete repairs efficiently
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures

Equipment May Include

• Forklifts and lift trucks
• Electric and internal-combustion equipment
• Aerial and scissor lifts
• Floor sweepers and scrubbers
• Pallet jacks
• Industrial carts and personnel carriers
• Other material handling equipment

Qualifications

• Previous mechanical or equipment repair experience preferred
• Experience with forklifts, heavy equipment, automotive, agricultural, diesel, or industrial equipment is a plus
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities
• Knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems preferred
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Dependable with a strong work ethic
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to safely lift 50 pounds or more
• Willingness to participate in ongoing training and certification programs

Candidates with experience in automotive, diesel, agricultural, construction, or heavy-equipment repair are encouraged to apply. Previous forklift experience is a plus but is not required for candidates with a strong mechanical background.
