What they need

SHOP SUPERVISOR

POSITION SUMMARY

The Shop Supervisor is responsible for the operational readiness of Wild Ridge Lawn & Landscape's full equipment fleet, overseeing maintenance, repairs, inventory, and shop team performance to ensure every crew hits the field with the tools and equipment they need to deliver exceptional work.

ABOUT WILD RIDGE LAWN & LANDSCAPE

Wild Ridge Lawn & Landscape is a leading commercial landscaping company based in Indianapolis, Indiana, dedicated to providing top-quality lawn care, landscape maintenance, design, and snow and ice management services to commercial properties across the region. Founded by Joe and Krista Wildridge on a shared passion for doing things the right way, the company has grown into a trusted partner for some of the area's top organizations, delivering exceptional service, attention to detail, and genuine care on every property they manage. Powered by passion, dedicated to details, and rooted in relationships, Wild Ridge invests deeply in its people and its clients alike, with a mission to consistently perform the highest quality workmanship with unmatched responsiveness on every project.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Every piece of equipment in the Wild Ridge fleet is maintained on schedule, fully operational, and ready for deployment, with zero crews delayed at the start of a shift due to equipment failures that could have been prevented.

  • Shop costs, parts inventory, and vendor relationships are managed with discipline, keeping maintenance expenses predictable and the shop operating within budget without sacrificing quality or safety.

  • You are the person the Director of Operations and field team counts on to say "it's ready" — and you are right every time.

OBJECTIVES

  • Maintain the full equipment fleet on a proactive maintenance schedule, including mowers, trucks, trailers, snow equipment, hand tools, and small engines, ensuring all equipment is inspected, serviced, and roadworthy at all times.

  • Diagnose and coordinate the repair of mechanical failures on all fleet vehicles and equipment, completing or scheduling repairs within established turnaround standards so no crew is left without critical equipment.

  • Manage parts and supplies inventory, tracking stock levels in real time, placing orders before shortages occur, and maintaining an organized, clean, and auditable shop environment.

  • Build and maintain the preventive maintenance calendar for all equipment, completing scheduled services on time and documenting every service event, repair, and inspection in the fleet management system.

  • Manage fuel inventory and dispensing, tracking usage by vehicle and equipment, reporting anomalies, and maintaining compliance with all fuel storage and safety regulations.

  • Coordinate equipment assignment and availability with the Director of Operations and Project SUPERVISORs, ensuring the right equipment is staged and ready for the right crews at the right time.

  • Manage vendor and subcontractor relationships for parts suppliers, equipment dealers, and outside repair shops, negotiating pricing and turnaround standards that protect both quality and cost.

  • Oversee and develop shop team members, setting clear expectations, training on proper tool and equipment handling, and conducting performance conversations when standards are not met.

  • Manage the equipment procurement process in partnership with leadership, researching, spec'ing, and onboarding new equipment and ensuring all new assets are properly registered, insured, and entered into the fleet management system.

  • Enforce all safety standards in the shop and on equipment, including OSHA requirements, PPE compliance, equipment lockout/tagout procedures, and the reporting and documentation of all safety incidents.

  • Submit a weekly shop report to the Director of Fleet Management covering equipment status, open work orders, upcoming scheduled maintenance, parts orders pending, and any fleet issues requiring leadership attention.

  • Operate in full alignment with Wild Ridge's values of passion, attention to detail, and genuine relationships in every shop interaction, every vendor conversation, and every team decision.

COMPETENCIES

  • You keep the fleet running without being asked, because you built a maintenance system that catches problems before they become failures and you follow it without exception.

  • You manage parts inventory with the same discipline a field crew manages a job site, knowing what is in stock, what is on order, and what is at risk before anyone else has to ask.

  • You read a repair or cost pattern and surface it with a recommendation, not just the problem, treating shop expenses like a budget you own rather than a line on someone else's spreadsheet.

  • You prioritize competing repair and maintenance demands without losing track of anything, moving the most critical equipment to the front of the queue without letting scheduled maintenance fall behind.

  • You train and develop shop team members by showing them the standard before holding them to it, and you follow up to make sure it sticks.

  • You communicate clearly and proactively with the operations and field teams about equipment availability and turnaround timelines, so Project SUPERVISORs can plan without surprises.

  • You hold yourself to a shop standard that would pass a safety audit on any day, and you build that standard into the habits of everyone who works in the space.

  • You implement direction from leadership on equipment priorities, procurement decisions, and fleet strategy without friction, and you bring the operational detail needed to execute those decisions well.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of fleet or equipment management experience in landscaping, construction, or a related field service industry, with demonstrated ability to diagnose and coordinate repairs across a mixed fleet of light and heavy equipment.

  • Experience managing parts inventory, vendor relationships, and preventive maintenance programs, along with proficiency in fleet management or work order software.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required; experience with commercial landscaping equipment including mowers, trailers, and snow equipment strongly preferred.

  • Certifications in small engine repair, diesel mechanics, or OSHA safety are a plus but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Hands-on shop role requiring daily mechanical work including lifting, bending, crawling, and operating equipment in varying weather conditions throughout the Indianapolis area.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs regularly and operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and shop equipment safely and independently.

  • Prolonged physical activity in a shop environment including exposure to noise, grease, fuel, and outdoor elements is expected and required throughout the workday.
