Shopify Liquid Developer — Contract / Project-Based

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Shopify Liquid Developer for a short-term, contract/project-based assignment supporting an established ecommerce website.

This is not a full website redesign, new Shopify store build, or headless-commerce project. The selected developer will work within an existing Shopify theme architecture to build or refine reusable frontend components while preserving current functionality and customer journeys.

The initial assignment will focus on a configurable homepage experience-discovery section using Shopify Liquid, JSON templates, reusable sections/blocks, and Theme Editor settings.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine reusable Shopify Liquid sections, blocks, snippets, and schemas
• Build a configurable homepage component supporting up to six experience cards
• Ensure content can be managed through Shopify Theme Editor without code changes
• Implement responsive desktop, tablet, and mobile behavior
• Maintain consistent spacing, image presentation, typography, and interaction behavior
• Follow accessible frontend-development practices
• Reuse existing theme components and styling conventions where possible
• Keep CSS scoped and JavaScript minimal to avoid unintended theme conflicts
• Preserve existing navigation, checkout, customer-account, and theme functionality
• Document dependencies, code changes, and implementation requirements
• Provide screenshots and functional testing evidence
• Deliver organized source files and implementation documentation

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience developing custom Shopify themes or theme components
• Strong Shopify Liquid skills
• Practical experience with JSON templates, section schemas, reusable sections, and blocks
• Experience configuring Shopify Theme Editor settings
• Advanced HTML5 and CSS3 skills
• Competent JavaScript skills
• Responsive ecommerce development experience
• Git-based version control experience
• Ability to troubleshoot and safely extend existing Shopify themes
• Ability to follow approved UX/UI specifications accurately
• Clear communication and dependable delivery estimates

Initial Assignment

The first commercial assignment will involve developing or refining a reusable homepage component with up to six configurable experience cards.

Each card should support:

• Image selection
• Editable title
• Optional description
• Destination URL
• Visibility control
• Display-order management

The completed component must be manageable through Shopify Theme Editor and function correctly across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

The technical assessment is for evaluation purposes only and is not a production assignment or commercial deliverable.

Candidates who demonstrate actual Shopify Liquid implementation experience will be prioritized over applicants with only general website-development experience.

Engagement Boundaries

The initial engagement does not include:

• Direct modification of the live production theme without authorization
• Checkout or payment-processing changes
• Customer-record or account-system changes
• Unapproved third-party applications or paid services
• Replacement of existing functional pages or templates without approval
• Broader website-development work outside the approved milestone

Any expanded scope requires separate approval.

Contract Details

• Remote

• Expected initial availability: 10–20 hours per week

Pay: $37.00 - $75.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 per week
