What they need

Siemens Desigo Controls - Technician / Programmer

Houston, Texas

Full-Time, Direct Hire

Compensation: Up to $135,000 per year

Position Summary

Our client, a well-established building automation and mechanical systems provider, is seeking a hands-on Siemens Desigo building automation specialist to program, configure, commission, troubleshoot, and optimize HVAC and building control systems. Candidates from technician, programmer, commissioning, or engineering backgrounds are welcome. Direct professional experience must include Siemens Desigo, Desigo CC, and/or Apogee Insight. Experience across multiple products is an advantage, but candidates do not need all three. The strongest candidates can explain the controls work they personally performed and demonstrate capabilities beyond installation or wiring alone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program, configure, update, and troubleshoot Siemens Desigo building automation systems and related supervisory/control applications.
  • Develop or modify DDC control logic, sequences of operation, controller applications, schedules, graphics, alarms, trends, and system databases as applicable to experience.
  • Perform startup, point-to-point checkout, functional testing, commissioning, and optimization of HVAC equipment and building-control sequences.
  • Diagnose BAS, HVAC, electrical, instrumentation, and network problems; identify root causes and implement durable corrections.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot controllers, sensors, actuators, variable-frequency drives, and HVAC equipment using BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, and related controls communications.
  • Read control drawings, wiring diagrams, mechanical plans, and sequences of operation; maintain redlines, as-builts, backups, test results, and service documentation.
  • Coordinate with project managers, mechanical/electrical contractors, fellow technicians, and customers to resolve field issues and close out work.
  • Provide technical guidance and customer handoff/training; recommend improvements in system reliability, energy efficiency, and maintainability.
  • Follow site safety requirements and support local travel to customer sites and occasional schedule flexibility when required.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with at least one of the following: Siemens Desigo, Siemens Desigo CC, or Siemens Apogee Insight. Experience with all three is not required.
  • Evidence of personal technical ownership in programming/configuration, commissioning, or advanced troubleshooting. Experience limited to installation, wiring, or observing another technician is not sufficient for this specialist role.
  • Typically 5+ years of BAS, DDC, HVAC controls, commissioning, or related field experience; exceptional product-specific experience may be considered on its merits.
  • Working knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment and control sequences, including air-handling units, VAVs, RTUs, chillers, boilers, pumps/hydronic systems, and drives.
  • Experience with DDC controllers, BACnet/IP or BACnet MS/TP, control circuits, basic IP networking, and technical drawings.
  • Ability to work independently, communicate clearly with customers, and produce accurate technical documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to customer sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience across more than one of Siemens Desigo, Desigo CC, and Apogee Insight; deep recent experience with any one is still in scope.
  • Desigo CC and Apogee Insight experience, including legacy-system support or migration work.
  • Experience supporting large campuses, central plants, healthcare, industrial, high-availability, or mission-critical environments.
  • Relevant Siemens training/certification, controls education, trade training, or an equivalent record of hands-on work.
  • Experience coaching technicians, serving as a subject-matter resource, or handing off systems to owners/operators.

Who Should Apply

We welcome qualified candidates whose current titles include Controls Technician, Controls Programmer, Commissioning Specialist, Controls Engineer, BAS Specialist, Systems Specialist, Building Automation Engineer, DDC Programmer, or Senior Controls Technician. Selection is based on hands-on experience with the specified Siemens platforms and demonstrated technical capability—not title alone.
