What they need

Sign Designer

Hartlauer Signs – Las Vegas, NV Full-Time

Hartlauer Signs is a full-service commercial sign company in Las Vegas specializing in custom architectural signage, casino signage, large-format graphics, illuminated signs, plaques, ADA signage, and specialty fabrication.

We are looking for an experienced Sign Designer to join our Design Department. This position is responsible for developing professional sign designs and presentation drawings that clearly communicate the customer's vision while providing our Sales, Estimating, Project Management, Permitting, Layout, and Production teams with an accurate basis for their work.

This is not strictly a graphic design position. Our designers need to understand signage well enough to create designs that are visually strong, accurately presented, and practical to manufacture and install. The ideal candidate combines strong graphic design and presentation skills with technical accuracy, attention to detail, and an understanding of the sign industry.

Software

The position regularly works with:

● CorelDRAW

● Adobe Photoshop

● Adobe Acrobat

● SketchUp

● SquareCoil project-management software

Experience with Adobe Illustrator and other Adobe Creative Cloud programs is also helpful.

CorelDRAW is our primary design software, and our editable Design source files are maintained in CorelDRAW format. Candidates do not need to be experts in every program, but they should have strong vector-design skills, be comfortable working with photographs and architectural information, and be capable of learning and working within an established sign-design workflow.

Designer Responsibilities

● Develop professional sign designs and presentation drawings based on customer needs, project scope, and available information.

● Create concepts, renderings, elevations, sign details, and other drawings required to clearly communicate proposed signage.

● Design with consideration for branding, aesthetics, materials, construction methods, manufacturability, and installation.

● Review project information for accuracy and communicate with Sales or Project Management when additional information or clarification is needed.

● Revise designs based on customer feedback, Art Director review, permitting requirements, or project changes.

● Self-review work for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and overall presentation quality.

● Maintain organized project files, revisions, and design documentation according to company standards.

● Work closely with the Art Director, Sales, Project Management, Estimating, Permitting, Layout, and Production teams to move projects through the design process.

Sign Design & Industry Knowledge

Designers are not expected to engineer signs or develop complete production shop drawings. However, they are expected to understand signage well enough to develop concepts that are realistic and reasonably manufacturable. Hartlauer Signs Design SOP

A working understanding of common sign types, materials, construction methods, finishes, illumination, and installation considerations is highly preferred.

Projects may include:

● Channel letters and illuminated building signage

● Dimensional letters and logos

● Sign cabinets

● Monument and pylon signs

● Architectural signage

● Interior signage

● Casino and hospitality signage

● Wall and window graphics

● Plaques and ADA signage

● Wayfinding and sign programs

● Custom and specialty signage

Designers should be comfortable working from photographs, architectural drawings, site plans, surveys, measurements, customer artwork, brand standards, and other project information.

Qualifications

● Previous experience in sign design, environmental graphic design, architectural signage, or a related field preferred.

● Sign-industry experience is highly preferred.

● Strong experience with CorelDRAW preferred.

● Experience with Adobe Photoshop preferred.

● Experience with SketchUp is a plus.

● Experience with Adobe Illustrator and other Adobe Creative Cloud programs is helpful.

● Strong vector-design and page-layout skills.

● Strong understanding of typography, composition, spacing, proportion, hierarchy, and color.

● Experience creating photo renderings and presentation drawings preferred.

● Experience working from architectural drawings, elevations, site plans, surveys, photographs, and measurements preferred.

● Ability to accurately read and work with dimensions, measurements, and scale.

● Working knowledge of common sign materials, construction methods, illumination, finishes, and mounting methods preferred.

● Strong computer and digital file-management skills.

● Excellent attention to detail.

● Strong spelling and proofreading skills.

● Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.

● Ability to work efficiently while maintaining accuracy and quality.

● Ability to take direction and incorporate redlines and revisions.

● Willingness to stop and ask questions rather than make assumptions when project information is incomplete.

● Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with other departments.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands that good sign design requires both creativity and technical accuracy. This position is more than putting a customer's logo on a photograph. We need someone who can understand what a customer is trying to accomplish, develop a strong visual solution, communicate that solution through professional drawings, and consider how the finished sign will ultimately be manufactured and installed.

Hartlauer Signs produces a wide variety of custom signage. This is not a repetitive graphic-design position. Projects can range from relatively simple wall signs and graphics to complete architectural sign packages, casino signage, illuminated signs, monument signs, pylons, interior sign programs, and highly customized specialty signage.

● Monday through Friday

● 7AM-3:30PM
