Job Description General Purpose of Job :

Under direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room.

Essential Duties

• This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

• Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique.

• Assists the circulating nurse in the preparation of surgical procedures and during room turnovers between procedures.

• Prepares sterile field for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and supplies are available for use.

• During the surgical procedure:

• Anticipation of needs for surgeon and passing of instruments and supplies;

• Functions as assistant, when needed;

• Obtains counts with circulating nurse;

• Cares for specimens according to procedure;

• Maintains proper care of instruments and supplies when procedure is finished.

• Maintains equipment, supplies and environmental safety.

• Maintains knowledge of current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation.

• Maintains standards by participating in in-services, committees, etc.

• Decontaminating and preparation for sterilization of instruments utilized during surgical cases

• Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Job Requirements General Requirements Current BLS

Work Experience

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Scrub tech program or
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a scrub tech.

Education High School Diploma or GED Formal Aseptic Technique Training

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrate computer skills including word processing, databases and e-mail. Excellent verbal and communication skills
