Role type: Site Agent

Ready to take the next step?

Lead civil engineering works with the support of an experienced project team.

Role overview

Knights Brown is an independent civil engineering contractor delivering complex work across energy, water utilities, infrastructure, coasts & ports, and buildings. We are looking for an ambitious Site Agent to join our growing Scotland team, delivering civil engineering works across the energy sector, including onshore wind, battery energy storage and substations.

This opportunity would suit a newly appointed Site Agent or an experienced Sub Agent ready to step up.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take responsibility for a team and package of works, building your leadership experience through practical project delivery.

What you’ll be doing

  • Plan, resource and manage your works against the project programme, preparing short-term lookahead plans, monitoring progress and taking action to address delays, working closely with the Project Manager and commercial team.
  • Manage labour, plant, materials and subcontractors efficiently, monitoring productivity and costs against agreed allowances.
  • Work with the commercial team to identify changes, maintain accurate site records and provide timely information to support valuations and contractual notices.
  • Lead engineers, supervisors and the workforce, clearly communicating requirements and priorities.
  • Drive a strong health and safety culture and ensure suitable controls are in place before work starts.
  • Ensure works meet the drawings, specifications and inspection and test plans, maintaining quality records and raising risks or issues early.
  • Take ownership, solve problems and help your team deliver efficiently.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience as a Site Agent or an experienced Sub Agent ready to take on greater responsibility.
  • A strong civil engineering site background, with experience coordinating teams and work packages.
  • Ambition to develop, a proactive approach and the confidence to take ownership and ask for support when needed.
  • Clear, reliable communication and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Experience managing health and safety compliance, with SMSTS and a CSCS card relevant to the role.
  • Good planning and organisational skills, with flexibility to travel across Scotland.
  • Practical experience of short-term programming, progress monitoring and coordinating resources.
  • Good commercial awareness, with an understanding of how productivity, resource decisions and changes affect project costs.

Desirable

  • Energy project experience.
  • Experience of a direct delivery workforce.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator.
  • Crane Appointed Person.
  • HSG47 underground services.
  • First Aid.
  • Experience delivering civil engineering works on SPEN or SSE projects, particularly substations and transmission or distribution infrastructure, would be advantageous.

Why join Knights Brown

  • Real engineering work - delivering complex, high-impact infrastructure.
  • Direct delivery model - engineering-led teams with real control.
  • Responsibility with support - ownership backed by experienced teams.
  • Progression through experience - develop through real project delivery.
  • A place you belong - collaborative, straightforward working culture.

Location & travel

  • You will be based on our Scottish projects and must be flexible and willing to travel across Scotland.
